Hi all!

I haven't used my 3dfx gear in a while and was wondering if their would be any concerns running pci 3dfx cards on modern motherboards. I don't wont to fry anything.

EG: Looking at building a Asrock Z97 Anniversary with a G3258 CPU.



It's got two PCI slots - ideal for my voodoo2 boards.

I guess it all comes down to the voltage and Mhz on the PCI slots, any other considerations???

Any clarification much appreciated!

Does anyone know if there is a bios that exorcises a Voodoo4 4500 PCI MAC for use on a PC to enable DVI?

Or any information as to what to edit in the BIOS file to enable DVI?

It's been done with the Voodoo5 5500 and should be possible here too.

Anyone flashed a V4 mac with the PC bios 1.15 PCI?

OK! I just got a voodoo5 5500 AGP version.

I wanna chuck it into my overclocked ASUS P2B-D mobo.
Anyone know if the V5 can take 89Mhz on the AGP port?
This is 33% higher than the 66Mhz when running stock 100Mhz FSB!

I remembering going to an Air Show and the graphics of the demonstration of the EF2000 where exactly the same as the Voodoo1!

There are two different versions here.

Does anyone know what the official specs are for the operating temperature of the VSA-100? Say from a data-sheet!

I want to set up an automatic temperature control on my fans to keep the VSA-100's within operating temperature.

I'd like to replace the stock cooling of the Voodoo4 4500!

I did notice the two holes around the VSA-100 was slightly wider than the Voodoo5 5500.
And the VSA-100 wasn't centered either.

Love to see some solutions or ideas.

Had a look at a few linux distro's for running 3dfx hardware. (voodoo2 & voodoo5 5500)

Tried aLinux and CentOS and couldn't get the Xserver to talk to Glide.

testGlide2x & testGlide3x worked fine but Xorg didn't want to co-operate.

Mainly want to run snes9x!

Anyone recommend a top Distro for 3dfx hardware? Maybe Xfree86 was better behaved? fn DRI[!]

Voodoo2 SLI beats Voodoo5 5500?

The screenshot below shows a comparison between the two. Both done on the exact same PC.
The purple bar is the Voodoo5 5500(PCI 1.18DVI Bios)



Overall Reality Marks for the Voodoo2SLI was 6.63, while the Voodoo5 5500 only got 6.16.
But check out the fill rate what goes on there?

OK..... So we know the stock cooling on the Voodoo5 5500 is far from perfect.

Did some research into alternatives and came accross the Zalman Northbridge Chipset Coolers.
I'd thought I'd chuck this up for discussion to see if anyone else had used or considered them.

Leaving aside the issue of height blocking PCI slots, would these suckers sufficiently cool the VSA-100 chips on a Voodoo5 5500?

This review states that the ZM-NB47J can out perform stock Abit northbridge coolers by 2-3 degrees celcius.
