Games / Counter-Strike - best performance

I had a Voodoo 3 and i couldn't play wolfenstein enemy terrirory so i tried that mesafx, after it failed to work i gave up and just bought a 128mb nvidia GeForce4 MX 4000, and i guess after all that stuff i did i didn't delete something because when i try to play Wolfenstein enemey terrirory it says "hwcInit: 3dfx device not found!". Under device managers it says Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000 like it's supposed too and i have uninstalled cleared the game folder and reinstalled the game and it says the same thing..

System:
OS: Windows Xp Professional
Processer:AMD Athlon XP 1600+(1.4ghz)
Memory:768mb of RAM
Video card: Nvidia geforce4 MX 4000(128mb)

Any ideas?

tested a bit more, and this should work even better:

Rename the MesaFX opengl32.dll to 3dfxvgl.dll and move it to your windows/system (or system32 under Win2000/XP) folder along with the correct MesaFX glide3x.dll file (overwrite old files if needed). Make sure no MesaFX files are in your ET folder. Create a shortcut to ET.exe, rightclick on it,and add +set r_gldriver 3dfxvgl command to the target box.
(example: "C:\Games\Wolf-ET\ET.exe" +set r_gldriver 3dfxvgl)..

I tried it but i get a message saying hwcinit: 3dfx device not found
