Title: Huge frame drop
Post by: skinnie on 15 November 2005, 11:11:18
Hi,I have a "little" problem in my 3dfx system (a.k.a. mmx200@233, soyo 5bt with latest bios (intel 430tx) and stb v2+creative v2 both 12mb+matrox mil 2mb or ati graphics pro turbo a.k.a. mach64 vt)
let's see if I can explain..I format the hdd.install win98se..and put the driver of my matrox and 1 voodoo (with mfv4.6 or that metabyte driver posted here)..and install dx6.1..then I can play ut @800x600 or even 1024 (with the metabyte driver) @ 26+ fps..but after installing everything I need (adsl speedtouch modem, msn 6.2,roxyo easy cd burner, klm codec pack, mediaplayer 9,intel 430tx drivers, and conceptronics 6 usb pci card) I can't pass of 12/16 fps..or even 7...even if I put the other voodoo in SLi (fv 4.6).
Do you know if any of this driver has conflict with v2?
I have tried to uninstall all 3dfx driver with driver cleaner pro, and clean somo registries with registry cleaner..but it remains the same thing..
plz help me..now I am living with this pc..(i lend my 3200 to a friend..)

your poor little microprocessor can barely keep up with the data flow out the ADSL card or the USB card or both.  which sound card do yu have???.  do you REALLY need the USB card installed?

yes..now I need..well..i uninstaled dx and installed it again..and it seems a little better..
the pci usb card..already was working (with general drivers, not the ali ones..i think it's the ones from the chipset) when I got 32fps in ut with a single voodoo..
I have a Creative AWE32 (isa).

so the generic USB drivers in windows is faster than the OEM ones eh?  is the usb card trying to run in USB 2.0 mode or USB 1.0 mode.  the chipset on your motherboard may not be able to keep up with the USB 2.0 data rate.  It may also be trying to do some bus mastering, which will take cycles away from the video.

nope..the ali usb drivers are better..but when I start the computer after a clean instalation of win98se,it works with the windows drivers..I think it is working in 2.0 mode..
the pc as a all-in-one (listening ot music, surfing in the internet, msn (6.2 of course) is very good..considering it is a mmx200...but in the games it is very low..but this must be due to something that is wrong in software..not in the hardware, because as I said before..in a fresh instalation of win98se..only with the drivers of the 2d card and the voodoos (or a single one) it gets in ut 22+ fps
here are some screensshots of that time..i think it was with a single voodoo..stb blackmagic 12mb..
