Yesterday, I have read a article about the post filters,[8D]
Here:
http://www.techspot.com/reviews/hardware/voodoo5_part2/
In that article, it said that if we set the 3D Filter Qulity to High and Alpha Blending to Sharper will enable the use of a special Post Filter which results in effectively 22-bits colour.[8)]And it said that this wil provide optimal image quality with the Voodoo3.:)
Everybody, it that so???????[:I]
However, in the tweak guide of the 3dfxzone.it, it said that set the
Alpha Blending to Smoother will be the best quality!!!!!![:0]
Here:
https://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/bestsettings/am29.htm
So, which one is right????????[B)]
Which setting will provide the best image quality of my Voodoo3 2000???????[|)]
Please tell me!!!!!!!!!![:(]
My operating system:
Windows ME
CPU:Pentium III 500Mhz
RAM:256 RAM
Video card:
Voodoo 3 2000(8MB)
Driver:
AmigaMerlin V2.9 (9x/ME)
DirectX 9.0c
MesaFX-6.3(the lastest version)

3D Filter: High
Alpha Blending: Smoother , for best quality
and Normal & Sharper for best speed

Well, I won't say that. In my humble opinion, the "smoother" option looks just crappy. :D Smoke or other particle effects lose their visible pixels ... but instead of that you see more disturbing artefacts like the strong appearance of green and lila colors.
Sharp + High Quality looks very nice if you use 1024x768 or higher -- without being "fake-colorful". :)

Teff, hi:D
I'll have to agree with Raff in this one. Using 3d filtering set to "HIGH" and Alpha blending to "SHARPER" will give you the best visual quality, performance free!
I had some screenshots of my own with Collin McRae Rally 2, and with alpha blending set to "smoother" there was significant banding in the dust particles.
A very good test to see for yourself is the 3DMark2001's fill rate test.
Run only that test. With Alpha set to "sharper" you will see the famous "22bbp" [8D]
Oh~~~~~[:I]
I see........[8D]
So, set the 3D Filter Qulity to High and Alpha Blending to Sharper will enable the use of a Post Filter, isn't it????????;)
Yeah, some say that the post filter is enabled by default, though. (I don't agree)
QuoteSo, set the 3D Filter Qulity to High and Alpha Blending to Sharper
Also, having those two set to "Auto" has the same effect;)
...but better be on the safe side:D
I think it depends on the resolution. AFAIK the driver uses (when set to automatic) @ lower resolutions "normal" + "sharper" which is the setting for the voodoo2 4x1 linear filter.
