Title: Help with setup for CS 1.6
Post by: v5striker on 12 June 2006, 06:27:19
Hello, i have a v5 on the way, what is the current best setup for v5 5500 for counter strike 1.6?

I have win xp pro. I used to play with banshee 16mb sgram, with evolution driver and mesafx. But i'm new to vsa-100, and confused as to what drivers and patches are the best for v5 5500.

Should i use amiga merlin 3.1 r1 with mesafx, or the 3.1 r11 with sfft, or what?

My hardware is p3 1100, with 512mb ram.

I play CS 1.6 a lot and the fastest setting is with Amigamerlin 3.1 r11 with the latest 3dfx opengl ICD instead of mesa.

Mikulaish, is ICD v1.0.0.0761 the latest one?

Is that better than WickedGL? SAGE?

Thanks.

Yes, that is the latest. Sage didn't work for me at all. WickedGl uses glide2x, not glide3x and if i remember correctly, that didn't work eighter. You can try more opengl drivers and check your fps to see, which one is better. Smoke grenades will be your main problem.

wickedgl uses glide2x for voodoo2/3/banshee,and glide3x for voodoo4/5 ;).the lates ICD should work great, but if the CPU supports SSE instructions (p3 does),you should try wickedgl as well,it may perform better..

sage&mesafx is not recommended for older games, especially HL1 engine based.

I'm having problems with an older Banshee Evolution driver that was already uninstalled, but windows seems to list it all the time under Add/Remove programs. Uninstalling it doesn't do anything. Under device manager, for v5500 i get this error:

Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device.  To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I have tried Driver Cleaner and removing the 3dfxvs folder in registry.

What am i doing wrong?

I re-cleaned several times using driver cleaner, then with regcleaner i removed the banshee evolution entry from the list.  But i'm still getting the same error for v5500 in device manager.

first, make sure your driver is fully working (run some simple opengl game like quake1/2 using wickedgl),and try this (http://helppage.3dfx.sk/#voodoosandcs).
