Title: Passed 5000 points Wall 3DMark2001SE
Post by: osckhar on 09 August 2007, 15:27:26
New World Record - V6k AGP2PCI - WinXP.

I got an AGP2PCI adapter and with the new driver from Koolsmoky I tried my Intel system with a Core2duo and the V6k. Here goes some test: Passed the 5000 points wall. 8)

Intel Core2Duo 6600
Change-AGP2PCI
Voodoo5-6000 3700A AGP @195MHz
3DMark2001SE
WinXP SP2
Koolsmoky Beta

ps. Pity about PCI to PCI BRIDGE limitation. It does not support 66MHz bus. I tried the AGP2PCI on PCI-X slot but it works to 33MHz. With V6k + AGP2PCI + PCI 66MHz. The card could reach 6000points... :)

If your V56K has the Hint HB1-SE66 PCI-PCI bridge, the V56K itself is capable of running 66MHz. Bit 5 of the PCI status register will be set to 1 and will show that the bridge is 66MHz capable to the system. Additionally, you need to supply the M66EN signal to the mainboard to run 66MHz on the PCI bus. You probably need to modify the AGP2PCI riser card to supply the M66EN signal to the mainboard. For starters, check if the M66EN pin is connected to GND or not.

Hi Kool, :)

Where Can I check it?

No, you need to do a hardware mod on the AGP2PCI riser card. Read my previous post carefully and do what I suggested.

Ok, so I will need help. Where is the M66EN pin? On the AGP2PCI? I have checked the AGP2PCI but I have not found M66EN.

Pin 49 on side B of the AGP2PCI riser card needs to be pulled-up to operate in 66MHz. Connecting it to GND signals the mainboard to run 33MHz. So for starters, check if the pin is connected to GND or not.

Isolate the riser card from the system and V56K before doing the checks. You have been warned.

I tried on the side B with the multimeter and PIN 49 and it is not connected to 'Ground'.

Then trace the lines from pin 49 and find where they connect to.

Looking at your pic, if you trace the line from pin 49 side B, there's an IVH going from side B to A right above pin 48 side B. I bet it connects to pin 48 side A. Which means pin 49 side B is connected to GND.

What you need to do now is isolate pin 49 side B and connect it to a pullup resitor to Vcc.

Isolate pin49 want to say to isolate it by cutting the PCB trace on the side B?
How Can I connect it to the Vcc?

Thanks,
Oscar

Start out by just masking pin 49 side B and see if that enables 66MHz operation. If it doesn't work, then connect it to a pullup resistor to Vcc. You can cut the line on the PCB or create a new pin over the mask. I recommend you do a little researching yourself before doing the mod. You can find the PCI spec docs at PCI-SIG.

Congratulations for your new world record !

How much memory do u have in this dual core sistem ?
AFAIK the 3dMark2001 is very sensible to every system change, so that 2Gb of memory with agressive timmings should bring some points more...
6000 Points is not too far now ...

Hey Oscar what speed did your CPU run? Intel E6600 @ 2.4Ghz stock speeds?
and what Mobo did you use which has a 66Mhz PCI Bus for Intel Core2 Duo?

QuoteHey Oscar what speed did your CPU run? Intel E6600 @ 2.4Ghz stock speeds?

E6600@3200MHz 410FSB

You only need to find a motherboard with PCI-x (Workstation). With a V5 PCI plug it the card will work to 66MHz.

I did some test:

V6K + AGP2PCI
Intel sistem with Core2duo

3DMark2001SE
V6k@166MHz (AGP2PCI) on PCI Bus - 33MHz - 4000Points
V6k@166MHz (AGP2PCI) on PCI Bus - 50MHz - 4800Points
V6k@166MHz (AGP2PCI - Modded) on PCI Bus - 66MHz - 5300Points

3DMark2001SE
V5 5500 PCI - PCI-X 66MHz - 3700Points
V5 5500 PCI - PCI 33Mhz - 3000Points
V5 5500 AGP (AGP2PCI modded) - PCI-X 66MHz - 3700Points.

So the PCI-X is the way for Voodoo cards. PCI-X = AGP1x (66MHz).

hmm interesting Oscar that a 5500 PCI can operate with a 66Mhz PCI bus never knew that, since 32Bit PCI only operates @ 33Mhz right, as I thought a 5500 PCI/4500 PCI was limited with that as well?

thopugh I may be mistaken of course

@Obi,
V4/V5 PCI are PCI66MHz equal like V4/V5 AGP (PCI66MHz). Just PCI version is limited BUS PCI 33MHz. When you plug them on PCI-X you can see them to his maximum potential (66MHz). ;)

No problem Obi! ;)

Try your V5 PCI and show us the scores. With a V5 5500 PCI @185MHz I got 4050Points.
Now I am waiting for best DDR. I think 6000 points will be easy with my V6k runing @195MHz.

ps. The next step will be to see like affect the bus pci between 33-66MHz in D3D games without T&L by software (NFSU, Collin McRae3, V-Rally)

well I need 2 AthlonMP 2800+ CPU's first heh got the board though my 5500 PCI does 191Mhz max speed without page tearing :) it used to be Mojo's card some long time ago.

The card I use is a Rev.A1 2900 with bios 1.11 [8D]

btw 6000 points with a 6000 matches the cards name also haha, and really you deserve a front page post if you will reach the magical 6000 + points on 3D mark 2001SE B330 :D

I sense you will get around 6024 something like that ;)

Hi Radu,
At the moment is not possible to reach 6000Points. I think my V6k is limited for the bandwidth. So, a Quad Core CPU will not help more than a Core2Duo. I have tried to up FSB, O/C CPU, agressive timmings and nothing... The only way for getting extra points is overclocking V6k.

Anyways I had to sell my MPX board because of the need for money heh, sold it nicely though hehe.

Hey Osckhar, how about testing under 98SE? I'm quite sure you'll hit the 6000 point then with ease [8D]

Since 98SE should give you a nice 500 to 1000 points boost ;)
I'd use AM 2.9 or the latest Raziel64 drivers :)

Okay no support for 98SE, how about Win2K Pro = SP4, that is still faster than XP in Glide games as 3D mark 2001SE, it should deliver about a mere 250 a 320 points extra :)
