Hi,

sorry for my late reply!  Don't know if still matters, but here it goes...

From what I've seen in your post, you actually didn't retrieve glide-devel-branch.  The correct command line is:
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@glide.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/glide -z6 co -P -r glide-devel-branch Glide3
(note: use Glide3 with capital G -- that will get both glide3x and swlibs)

There is not likely that we'll ever have an autotools manager (and I personally hate them -- both autotools and managers :D).  So you'll have to compile the hard way, using makefile.linux.  Make sure you read "Linux-portability", "makefile.linux" and the READMEs.  Report back if you still have problems.

Hello,

there is no "top" distro for running 3dfx hardware under linux.  With enough patience, it can be done under virtually any distro.  Bazillion of thanks to Guillem Jover, the last of the mohicans.

I still owe to 3dfxzone.it at least one release for windows and linux, but my last semester in university, the new full-time job and real life ate my whole spare time.

Alas, I failed to keep my last promise to this forum, but I will bring a release by spring 2007.

Until then, pick a distro of choice.  Then ask particular questions (along with detailed info, xorg version, logs etc), and I will try to guide you through it.

Is anyone using this card on 2.6 kernel [?]
i'm interesting for experience feedback.

Thanks.
It works on 2.6.13.  Can you detail a bit?

Voodoo4/5 Discussions / Linux Driver for V5 5500

QuoteOriginally posted by amp_man

I know there are drivers out there (and even included in the kernel) for the V5 5500, but last I knew, they only used one of the VSAs. Is this still the case?
Yes.
QuoteAnd is there a patch or seperate driver to support both GPUs?
No.
QuoteAlso, I see that XiGraphics has a driver that allegedly (according to x-3dfx) supports both gpus. Does anyone have experience with this? 3dfx isn't even listed on their homepage, which is why I ask. Thanks for any info!
In theory, it is possible to use all GPUs.  But with DRI, it requires changes in the X server.  Non-DRI options still exist, like DGA (quite obsolete) or CINIT (direct hardware access).  I wrote the code for DGA and CINIT, but encountered some problems and never finished it.

Just install Microsoft Visual Studio. The instructions to compile are on the mesa site. You just need to open the workspace and build the dll's.
Not so.  Those are for software rendering.

AFAIK Glide backend does not compile as-is.  I plan to have a look at it in the next few days.

Oh, and will also update Sage.

Hello,

Now, it's been exactly a year since my departure, so I thought it would be a nice timing to drop a few words...

It's nice to see the forum is pretty much alive.  Many topics are active.  Yet I chose this one because it was most comfortable for me and, frankly, I didn't feel like beginning a new one.

So, guys, keep up the good spirit and have a nice winter holiday!

For the technically oriented: although I still have developer rights in Mesa team, there is very unlikely that any new FX release will see the day of light.  I am sorry, but real-life issues won.

There is a complete new driver, called Sage, on my webpage; I do it in my spare time, and perhaps - just perhaps - a really working version will be released.  The texture compression code on my webpage was revisited to allow Sage to decompress textures on-the-fly.

okay, boyz and galz,

it's been a while now... and it's been fun, for some; and less fun, for others. but all good things must come to an end. and lo, this is it: 3dfx is gone and so am i.

special thanks to AmigaMerlin, KoolSmoky, HankSemenec, FalconFly for helping me. i also wish to thank to all my friends/fans from MesaFx thread. last, but not least, my royal finger to the trolls/morons out there - not worth mentioning - and their protectors, too.

and with that, i bid you farewell.

ps: i would have liked to provide a final release today, but i can't. i can, however, assure there _will be_ one. AmigaMerlin will take care of it, in the near future. there may be spurious updates on my situ, but do not count on it! i will also keep the 3dfxzone account, just in case.

is this permanent or just because the release is "beta"?
there will be a big (all-cards) glide3x release on sourceforge in the near future, so stay tuned. atm, we're working on revived code.

ok, the problem was easy to spot, but hard to fix.

part of it was related to a problem in Mesa core (fixed now).
and part of it is related to the way this game uses palette textures. if i disable GL_EXT_paletted_texture, it will work (although the mouse lag is killing me). have to dig a bit more...

Voodoo4/5 Discussions / Voodoo5 FSAA in DOS games?

By "environment variable", do you mean DOS evironment variable in AUTOEXEC.BAT?
yup!

QuoteA DOS 3DFX games I know to handle 3DFX directly is JetFighter III. I'm not sure about Tomb Raider 1, though. Anyway, does anyone know which DOS games accessing 3DFX directly and which games using DOS GLide? Is there a website about this?
someone else has to answer here, as i really dunno.

Quotei will release a GLQuake1 patch to illustrate FSAA capabilities of Glide3x via Mesa (yes, it will run in plain DOS mode and/or Win9x DOS box). perhaps a few other games...
That would be cool.
pretty soon now.

I posted a (fairly lengthy and detailed) query on falconfly.de about a couple of errors I was getting with Clusterball (one with pure Glide, and then one trying to use MesaFX to bypass it), and patience said to come here and ask you, as you're probably the best bet for insight ;)   Could you possibly take a look and see if there's anything you know about?

I'm somewhat loathe to repost it because of its length, but I can do that if it'd make life easier.
i am not browsing FalconFly. at all! so you have to - either re-post the issue here or email it to me. in any case, limit yourself on your own postings (do not email me the entire forum).

Voodoo4/5 Discussions / Voodoo5 FSAA in DOS games?

@Kreshna Aryaguna Nurzaman
the FSAA is done inside Glide. the key to enable it is to find the trigger (the environment variable that is interpreted by Glide in order to activate FSAA). it shouldn't be so much work. SSTH3_SLIAA_CONFIGURATION can be a start.

for those games that handle 3dfx hw directly, is almost impossible.

@Manuelson
no problem!

however, for glide-based games, is no work at all. it can be done by non-programmers, too.

as a side-note...
i will release a GLQuake1 patch to illustrate FSAA capabilities of Glide3x via Mesa (yes, it will run in plain DOS mode and/or Win9x DOS box). perhaps a few other games...
