General Discussions / 3DFX Maxi Gamer Phoenix PCI

Can someone guide me in the installation and testing of the PCI maxi Gamer banshee?
I have a Fujitsu Siemens D1064 motherboard, with a Pentium 2 400MHz and 198Mb of RAM. Plus a PCI SoundBlaster card. I have done a fresh install of Windows 2000 Pro and installed the Guillemot 4.1.02.02 driver, which is telling me I have BIOS version 1.00.10 installed. There are no exclamation marks in Device Manager and all drivers are present. And the Maxi Gamer utility thinks the card is there.

I have installed Deux Ex which recognises the Banshee and tries to use 3DFX drivers. But get an error of "HWCEXT not implemented". I have also tried Quake2 + 3DFX patch and that crashes out. But I can't access the initial error message. But the game reports "Server was Killed". Probably caused by me trying to get out of a grey screen.

Personally I think the accelerator part of the card isn't working. But I'm not sure if its something software I'm not doing, Or a hardware issue. Any advice would be most welcome.

Sadly I think both cards are dead :(. I cant get any life out of them apart from one of them gave me a black and purple checkerboard screen. But thank you for the reply;).

I'm guessing this isn't a healthy look for a Voodoo 1.....[:

I remember playing games in software with my old Pentium 166.I'd got half way through Heretic 2 and I got a Voodoo 3 2000. fired it up in Heretic 2 for the first time and loaded a saved game, it looked awful and dark. Until I realised I was looking into a corner and I now had shadows. When I turned round and saw the (crude by todays standard) play field, I was totally blown away.. [:0]

I'm trying to test a couple of Voodoo cards, a Banshee, voodoo 1 and a voodoo 2. What's the easiest program to run to test if they're working? I've tried the shareware Quake with QuakeGL with no luck. What uses Glide?

Thanks for the warm welcome and the pointers. I'll have a look at the drivers. I noticed after I'd posted there was quite a whole section on drivers.:D

Can anyone advise me please...

I have a number of Voodoo cards. My history started with The Voodoo 3 2000, both PCI and AGP (I still have the AGP in a retro W98 system).
Over the years I've saved from unwanted PC's a Banshee, a Maxi Gamer Phoenix voodoo 1 and a Creative Blaster Voodoo 2 (CT6670).

The Banshee I can handle, although haven't found the right driver for it yet. But the Voodoo 1 and 2 are proving troublesome.

I've found some old parts and have a QDI socket 7 motherboard with a Duron 1300 in. 256Mb of DDR ram, an ATI Riva TNT2 video card and a fresh install of Windows 98SE. I have found a driver for the Voodoo 2 that the PC is happy with, But I cant stop the PC using the TNT2 when running Quake. The card works through the pass through, but nothing else.

As for the Voodoo 1. Windows only see's it when I start swapping PCI slots....!!!!

I wish I had an old 2D 2mb card... I used to pick them up from the fairs for £4 (pre 2000). But eBay are after £20+ for one now and for all I know these cards might be Kaput.

Or could it be the Processor? I have a couple of K6 systems I could try them on. A K6-2-500 and a K6-3-400. Do you think that would help?

Thanks
