AMD ha annunciato la video card AMD FirePro R5000, una soluzione progettata per la configurazione dei sistemi per data center ad elevate prestazioni. La FirePro R5000 è basata su una gpu in architettura Graphics Core Next (GCN) ed è dotata di supporto per il protocollo PCoIP (PC-over-IP).
Di conseguenza, il nuovo controller grafico di AMD può essere impiegato per la realizzazione di workstation fortemente orientate verso l'elaborazione grafica di modelli 3D e gestibili da remoto, attraverso una rete IP, con l'ausilio della tecnologia VMware.
Più in dettaglio il processore Teradici TERA2240 è in grado di trasmettere 300 megapixel al secondo, sufficienti ad alimentare, in accordo al comunicato del produttore, fino a quattro display con frame rate fino a 60fps.
La FirePro R5000 si mette in luce anche per le dimensioni ridotte in largezza, il che semplifica la sua installazione e ne amplifica la portabilità, e per il basso consumo di potenza. A tal proposito, AMD cita il supporto delle tecnologie proprietarie PowerTune e ZeroCore, che consentono alla card di esibire un consumo di potenza massimo non superiore alla soglia dei 150W.

Backed by a three-year warranty and planned three-year minimum lifecycle, the AMD FirePro R5000 will be available from select retailers and channel partners.
