 02.08.2005   AMD Introduces The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+

Full Press Release Title: AMD Introduces The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+ In Time For Holiday Retail Shoppers

Austin - August 1, 2005 -AMD Broadens Highly-Successful AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Family of Processors to Offer Exceptional Performance to Mainstream Consumers.

WHAT: AMD is leading the industry by delivering the benefits of client dual-core technology to a broader mainstream audience with the addition of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 3800+. The newest member to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor family provides consumers with an attractive entry point to dual-core computing on desktop PCs. Now consumers can experience exceptional dual-core performance at a mainstream price point.
WHO BENEFITS:

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor line is targeted primarily towards the prosumer and digital media segments -- sophisticated power users who run multiple processor-intensive applications simultaneously.

Today's PCs can operate in multi-tasking environments. With the new AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 3800+, mainstream consumers now have the ability to multi-task, creating digital content while listening to MP3s and writing e-mails, allowing them to do more in less time. Desktop dual-core processors can also deliver increasingly superior performance as multi-threaded applications spread from the server to the client and consumer markets.

WHY:

By introducing the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 3800+, AMD is now offering customers an expanded dual-core desktop processor line that delivers exceptional dual-core computing benefits across an even broader price and performance range. Since the launch of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor line in May, AMD has been extremely pleased with its successful sales and adoption, with more than 40 OEM partners and system builders currently offering products worldwide.

To enable the rapid adoption of its 90nm dual-core processor line, AMD has fully converted its manufacturing operations to the 90nm technology generation. The transition was one of the most rapid and efficient in AMD's history, due in large part to its industry-leading Automated Precision Manufacturing systems.

PRICING: The AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 3800+ is priced at $354 for 1K unit PIB.
