Prossimo il debutto della versione più economica della scheda Radoen 9700PRO, capace di fornire supporto DirectX 9 ad un pubblico dal budget ridotto

Stando a varie informazioni non ufficiali, ATI dovrebbe introdurre le proprie schede video Radeon 9500 e Radeon 9500PRO entro la fine del prossimo mese di Ottobre. Entrambi i chip sono versioni più economiche del chip Radeon 9700PRO, del quale mantengono il pieno supporto hardware alle API DirectX 9 ma, ovviamente, con un costo inferiore.

I due chip saranno abbinati a una dotazione di memoria DDR di 64 Mbytes, con bus memoria a 128bit (il chip Radeon 9700PRO utilizza bus a 256 bit). le frequenze di lavoro del chip Radeon 9500 saranno di 275 Mhz, mentre quello della memoria video abbinata di 550 Mhz.

Le schede basate su chip Radeon 9500PRO avranno un costo di 219 dollari, mentre quelle basate su chiop Radeon 9500 saranno commercializzate a 179 dollari.
Le informazioni attualmente disponibili non permettono di capire chiaramente quali siano le differenze tra i due chip della serie 9500; il chip radeon 9500 avrà 4 pipeline di rendering, contro le 8 integrate nel chip Radeon 9700, con 4 unità di calcolo geometrico.

Powercolor, produttore taiwanese di schede video, ha pubblicato sul proprio sito web a questo indirizzo numerose informazioni sulle proprie schede video basate su chip ATi Radeon 9500, il modello EVIL COMMANDO X (Model XR95-B3).
