Voodoo3 Properties
Author is Sean Smithson aka sean.smithson@mailexcite.com
Released on 08/08/99
Version 1.7
Intended for Windows 95/98 (WinNT and Linux? ports "soon")

Improvements from 1.6:

  1) Less people should get DLL errors.

  2) Now translated into Dutch by Alexander Eggermont <alex02@dds.nl>.

  3) You can now overclock up to 240. For all you 3500 owners who want to
     go higher.

Improvements from 1.5:

  1) Quake(1,2 and 3) as well as other Glide/OpenGL games will now work fine
without clicking "Limit Texture Memory to 2MB in Glide/OpenGL". This is
a MAJOR bug fix, be sure to unclick this option if you can, by doing
Quake3 will speed up (other newer games as well probably). Sorry about
     that one.

  2) It's Back! That infamous DLL. With Win98 some people STILL get the DLL error
and are telling me that the DLL isn't in the zip file anymore. I thought
that Win98 didn't need it. But obviously some people still do. Its back in
the zip file. No guarenties that it will work though. The nexct version (or
the one after) should be 100% Win98SE compatible.

  3) The memory/clock speed overclocking bar sets it self to your clock speed and
doesn't jump to the top each time.

  4) Minor improvements that I've noticed speed up Quake3 (other newer games as
well, maybe). This depends on your system.

Improvements from 1.4:

  1) Changed the refresh icon to what it should be.

  2) Removed the "You are overclocking" message.

  3) FINALLY! I added the Enable herdware GDI in the Windows page. I was annoyed that
"Voodoo3 Tweaker" had this option while I didn't. Now I do.

  4) NOTE: You don't need the VBRun60.exe file if you had installed it from one of the
previous versions. If you're upgrading skip that part of the instalation.

  5) Added an Uninstall program for those of you who don't like my app. :(

Improvements from 1.3:

  1) Some people have written to me that they can't get Quake (1,2 or 3) to run. To fix
with all OpenGL games click the "Limit texture memory to 2MB in Glide/OpenGL".
It won't decrease performance but it will make them work.

  2) Added the "Windows" page with desktop options. Hope you like them.

  3) Removed the OK button now I just have the "Apply" button. I find it much better.

Improvements from 1.2:

  1) Added the option to allow you to reset defaults and set for prettiest and fastest
     settings.

  2) Voodoo3 Properties is now Windows98 compatible! Many people told me about weird
errors. And guess what? They were all using Win98. I recompiled it on Win98.
And it works fine. No more missing DLL error. I hope it doesn't lose Win95
compatibility though. Tell me if it still works fine on Win95.

Improvements from 1.0:

  1) Included the Msstdfmt.dll file for those of you who need it.

  2) Improved the refresh rates page. Allowing you to choose which color depth to apply
     your refresh rates settings to.

  3) Made main exe file smaller by removing images from the executable. By doing so you
must now keep the files pic1.jpg and pic2.jpg in the same directory as the exe.
But this results in an all around smaller program.

How to install:

  1) First of all you must have at least the secound release of 3dfx's Voodoo3 drivers.
These drivers are required otherwise Voodoo3 Properties will not function corectly.

  2) Unzip the zip (V3Pro.zip probably) file if you downloaded it from the net. If you are
reading this you must of done so.

  3) Some people have e-mailed me aking for the file Msstdfmt.dll. For those of you who
don't have it copy it to your "c:\windows\system" directory.

  4) Run the file VRun60.exe (VB6 runtime DLLs) witch will ask you to restart your
     computer. Do so.

  5) Run Voodoo3 Properties.exe and read ALL of the Readme.txt file (this one).

  6) You can now delete the VBrun60.exe file. It is no longer needed.

  7) Voodoo3 properties will place itself in the directory you specified. I recomend that
you place a link to it, or the exe itself on your desktop. That's what my fried does
so that he doesn't have to continually go into his video properties all the time.
     That's why I coded it.

How to use it:

  1) All the options pretty much explain what they do on their own. The scroll bar on the
right is change your memory/clock speed doing so is overclocking and may void warenty
and/or dammage your Voodoo3 (2000/3000/3500 it doesn't matter) and we wouldn't want to
     do that now would we?

  2) Send me an e-mail telling me that you downloaded it. Please do so because I want to
know if people use it. It's my first program that I've released to the public. Hey if
enought people think it's good I might buy myself a Voodoo3 (awfully expensive though)
that is, if no one wants to donate one.

  3) Overclock and tweak away!

Bugs:

  1) If there are any bugs tell me! I want to fix them.

Legal crap:

  1) This is freeware don't decompile this and/or change it any way. Please.

  2) You can't hold me responsible for any damage done to yourself, others, or your
computer/Voodoo3 this program causes (although it shouldn't). So for your sake
be careful overclocking the memory/clock speed.

Help:

  1) If anyone could help me reproduce this for Linux (best operating system in the world)
please e-mail me telling me so. I can't do it myself because my friend with the
Voodoo3 doesn't have Linux or the space to install so help me if you can.

  2) If I get a Voodoo3 or if someone gives me massive amounts of help the Linux version
will come. The WinNT one I will make when I'm bored, maybe tomorow maybe next week.

  3) Could someone give me a really good icon to use for 'Voodoo3 Properties'? This one
     sucks, I know.

  4) Some one with a 3000 or a 3500 seand me your registery file so that I can work on a
TV Out and a LCD property pages if I don't get one myself.

Special Thanks:

  1) (Have to put them first) 3dfx. For creating the Voodoo line of boards, I own a good
old Voodoo on a Monster3D, it still rules though.

  2) Me. For coding it.
