Hi all!

I'm pretty happy right now. My two Creative 12MB Voodoo 2's are working great on my modern Windows XP system in glide games. I would really like to thank the authors of the FastVoodoo 4.0 drivers for the efforts to keep the memory of 3dfx around. It's fun playing glide games that I haven't played in years again on a fast modern system!

I have a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI in my back-up system (AMD K6-3+ @ 550, 256 MB RAM, FIC VA-503+) that works great, but the CPU can choke in some games. Therefore the Voodoo 2's are great, cause now I can have the best of both worlds. I can use my Geforce FX5900 for the new eye-candy and my V2's for old school eye candy!

On quick question. Since the 'system info' box doesn't display properly, how exactly can I tell that SLI is in fact working? Is it the ability to play at 1024x768?

Regards,

merc62

Yes if you have 1024x768 SLI is working.
And I had the same idea as you, two voodoo2 for old games on your fast computer. And I thought that there is a option in the display properties (I think it is called that way ) that will disable SLI. If it is not on than SLI is working, as long as you connected the two cards with a SLI cable wich I think you have done already.

Start War and peace will be appreciated

Do the FastVoodoo 4 drivers have the option to disable D3D on the Voodoo cards like the old Diamond Voodoo2 drivers did?

Hi guy, welcome. Tnx for nice words about FV2 XP driver: you have totally understood as and why Voodoo2 card are useful on current system too.

"System info" button in driver cpl gives an viewing error and we know about it .

Yes, it does as perer writes.

Finally, try MesaFX libraries for OpenGL games and you will look out other beautiful news for Voodoo2.

No, these haven't similar setting because do not support D3D software on Windows XP environment. If you are thinking about FV2 for Win9x you could grab a good tool, 3D Control Center, from Voodoo2/Utilities page that allow choosing the Direct3D active device between Voodoo2 and primary card.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies, especially on how to tell SLI is working. I'm impressed with what these old cards can do, I'm getting 55-65 FPS in UnrealTournament at 1024x768 with maximum details and it looks great (seems to look nicer then when game is played in OpenGL on my Geforce FX).

I really like how the drivers are for Glide only, so all other newer games 'know' to run on the Geforce!

Simple! The glide-based games look for the files Glide2x.dll and Glide3x.dll, while Directx and opengl games use other files. This points them to the correct 3d accelerator.

Try using wickedgl, I boosted up my fps in Unreal Tournament from 60-70fps to 100-110fps with it(even Counter-Strike gets almost 50% fps boost and keeps it constant, even on big distances), without any quality being lost (I didn't notice any quality loss). I have a single Dimond Monster 3D II 8MB (Its Voodoo2 by Diamond). MesaFX (recent Voodoo2 release) seems to work fine with Unreal Tournament, getting around 90-100 fps with ?my imagination? some increase in quality!

I've tested at 800x600 (I can't go higher on a single V2 card) with all Video details set on max.
