I know this isn't the best combination, but has anyone managed to run 3d-A on the Windows Vista?
I get an DLL error when I try to run it. Vista is much more protective when it comes to DLL insertion. Running it on a compatibility mode does no good.
I would love to get it to run, since I have a moderate notebook (with the crappy Intel 950, who doesn't have TnL) and would like to play some old games on it that require TnL.

Hi

Do you get a user-right error ?
I mean 3D-Analyze cannot write the opengl.dll do System32 ?

If so You hve to do the following:

1. Go to "X:\Windows\" and right-click the System32 folder to the "Properties".
2. Go to "Security" -> "Advanced" -> "Owner".
3. Click "Edit..." and click on the User "Administrator".
4. Click "Apply".
5. Click 2 times "OK" till you´re back on the "Security" tab.
6. Click "Edit..." and mark the user "Administrator".
7. Check the "Full-access" and apply and close the window.
8. Go to the 3D-Analyze executable and right-click to "Open as Administrator".
And then it should work. But if you´ve installed 3Danalyze to "X:\Windows\System32\" remove it before you start it and install it on a other place like "C:\Program Files\3DAnalyze\".

If you have any questions or can´t find the right button, just reply to my post, because I have the German version and don´t know the 1000% right words Windows Vista uses on the english version.

Thx for that great reply. But it still doesn't work.

I tried your suggestion but at tip "7" of your I get that the access is denied for the "xxxxxx" file, where "xxxxxx" is the first file on my System32 folder. I can CONTINUE or ABORT. If I continue it says the same thing for every single one of my files in the System32 folder. So I think that it didn't apply. I'm pretty sure i folowed your tips right.

The error message I get is "Error, could not insert DLL".

Thx for your time.

Yeah that´s the problem. You have to have administrators rights to modify/delete the system files from Windows Vista.

So you have to set the Owner from "TrustedInstaller" to "Administrator" Or your accound name to the file AND to the directory.

And then you can set the rights like read/write/etc. to the specific Directory or file.

CJ:
Because Vista doesn't require TnL. Plus if you have integrated graphics the aero glass and the flip 3d just doesn't work. His only problem is graphics.
Discaciate:
You are having problems with 3D analyze? That really stinks, b/c I have intel 945G and am getting vista soon (got a free upgrade). You should probably consider getting a cheap graphics card (which is what i will probably do sometime) from tigerdirect.com or newegg.com just for the TnL and pixel shader 1.0 support.

I was able to get 3D-Analyze v2.36b to run under Vista Ultimate with all of the latest patches without a problem. The main thing though is that I have UAC disabled. I am not sure how well it will play with UAC turned on.

The only time I recieved a error copying the DLL is when the game failed to start properly for some reason. I found that the game was running in the task manager even though it was closed.

Since the dll was still being used by the game that should not have even been running it was not allowing 3D-Analyze to copy the dll a second time. As soon as I ended the task and attempted to run it again it started up properly.

Also, I have not tested this on an older video card at all. I use it for a different reason than TNL. I tested it on two GeForce 7800 GTX cards running in SLI. I use it for the Forced Windowed Mode option. That should not matter though since I recieved the same dll error you did when the program was already running. Though you may not want to run with UAC off, you might want to test it out and see if that allows you to use it. I would think that it would.

alright i've been at this for an hour now, and i found a problem. you've been emphasizing how you must have administrator rights to give its users administrative rights. so how do you log in as an admin to give a user the rights?

ok nvm, i know how to be an admin. http://www.maximumpcguides.com/logon-windows-vista-as-administrator/
nevertheless, i can't modify the files even as the admin. it seems that the admin has LESS rights than an administrative user. what the f. vista is so buggy.
still, i could be missing something.
