Hello again

As we all know there is a possibility to run normal GTA3 on Voodoo3 2000... Since Vice City have the same engine, and there wasn`t found any method to bypass game freezes, I figured out that its about time for another breaktrough (as we all can read in my previous topic)

First of all I`d like to hear all experts opinions of the game freezes (what causes those freezes) There must be some people around here that know something since its a big community of great voodoo shamans

I saw Raziel's64 topic on VC in Banshee, he managed to run it on such card and the game is able to run on a voodoo2 but the question is is it running stable - if yes; I would like to know how

Im doing everything I can to solve this problem, tried all drivers (even those that are not for V3 (i.e. Voodoo4/5 drivers wich actualy worked good in Voodoo3, but the textures was all messed up however game seemed to run stable [for a longer while])

Every info on those freezes in VC would be very welcomed as mentioned in previous topic

I would also like ask the community for help on this matter (once again) - I`m helpless alone, but in team we can achieve something that wasn`t achieved yet, its another challange, let`s face it togheter and prove that impossible is no longer impossible!

ps47 let me hit you with news, since the problem was never solved then I`m the one that solved it! Thats right I`VE SOLVED IT! Exacly by the time you are reading this. I told my friend when he advised me to quit this , that the solution is very close, that I feel it... and I was right... Reference drivers 1.03.05 are the solution, they fixed the freezes, unfortunetly some sequences look very bad (i.e. the intro [but its possible to press space to skip the intro now - this wasnt available when freezes wasn`t fixed]) Game runs just fine and mostly important STABLE with no freezes. What do you say now "Mr.End of Story" huh?

Thats right I`m the one who did it, first one, me - TelemachusRhade from Poland. Problems with freezeing in GTA III Vice City on Voodoo3 2000 are officialy solved.

Let me remind my system specs on wich I run Vice City - Pentium III @ 517MHz (450mhz before overclocking), 192MB Ram (64 = PC100, 128 = PC133), ASUS P2B-F MOBO (Intel 440BX Chipset), 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 AGP (not overclocked with reference drivers 1.03.05), Windows 98SE + SE Service Pack 2.0.2

..sorry to dissapoint you,but what I said is 100% true.the game simply freezes for MOST voodoo3 users.there is only one small exception: vodooo3 running in a pentium based machine that uses win9x and the 1.03.xx voodoo3 driver.if you are lucky enough to have exactly this combination of hardware/software,GTA3 will run stable.this is a known fact as well, see here: http://www.falconfly.de/voodoo3.htm (search for GTA3)..

for the rest of voodoo3 users,GTA3 will freeze.end of story.unless SFFT wants to add anything,of course.

Well I`m lucky allright, but you didnt said that erlyier, you didn`t said: try reference drivers 1.03.05 - you said nothing at all at the first time exept for the fact that nobody figured out what I did... I know it`s not a big achievement, and I`m not acting like big head but still that makes me first who discovered this since as you exacly said:

I asked for every info, every possible tip, clue and so called great community of powerfull voodoo shamans was siting silently including you...

If that was so obvious Then why didnt you said that in the first time ? huh ? I`m starting to think that there are no "powerfull voodoo shamans" around here, no ofense but look at the whole problem from the beginning, I`ve posted this topic in several places for those experts of this community to see this and comment it... aw, nevermind, sorry for the offtopic.

As I wrote earlyier, case is closed.

Telemachus, not all people have the success you've had with the 1.03 win98 drivers. My V3 also froze GTA3 with those drivers, when I had win98 + pentiumII. It just froze after 5 minutes and not after 5 seconds like the rest do

P.S. That's right. No shamans here. Just people who like their voodoos Take it or leave it

It seems you didnt get it what I had in mind, It was kind of metaphore... But nevermind...
You heretics (<-- dont understand that wrongly its another joke ) have freezes because of AMD or other chipset that you probobly have... / or diferent voodoos

ah and sorry for this shaman thing, guess there is no shamans ("Just people who like their voodoos" - as you said can be called that too) since they all got AMD and nVidia stuff, kinda retorical thingy but I was hoping that there are some true pure* (* - not tainted with the amd/nvidia stuff) shamans hehe forgive my mistake

Telemachus, not all people have the success you've had with the 1.03 win98 drivers.

Its not about success... Its about the info that ps47 could provide me earlyier if he really kneewed something about it... (as you noticed or not i asked for help twice in this case) But I`m 90% sure that he didn`t kneew wich exacly 1.03 driver to use ... But NVM. that its a silly situation and closed one already...

I pity that I couldn`t find a way to bypass those freezes for those who have diferent chipsets/hardware than me But as you know I only have one comp (for now) with specs I mentioned

Anyways... Intel Chipset owners will now be able to play VC and I guess thats something :)
