I used the orange ones on my V5. They work well but you need additional cooling (casefans or the stock V5 fans on these heatsinks) if you intend to do some intense long time (hours) playing. |

Thanks for that NitroX!
Probably best to go for the active cooling solution. Apparantly the Globalwin heatsink fans are well regarded. http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/r_gpu_cool/ |

Cool! I mean Cool?
They're Voodoo3 3000 Heatsinks right!? How'd they work?
Looks as though they'd spread the heat well!

If it's the fans I'm thinking of Kreshna, the Tennmax Stealth V3, they won't fit on top of a Zalman ZM-NB32J Heatsink! They have mounts that fit straight onto the Board. Much too wide for a 37(L) X 37(W) X 32(H) mm Heatsink.
Also the tennmax is a HSF all in one solution, you'd be doubling up on heatsinks when the zalman is overkill allready.
Good question though! How did the stock standard 40x40mm fans fit onto a 37x37mm heatsink
I must say I like the Voodoo3 heatsinks! A totally fanless solution would be nice!

The standard V5 fans can be screwed onto the ZMNB32-J (the orange cooler). They'll be a bit loosely but they've never fallen off when I used them. You don't need to modify anything about them, the screws fit between the outer fins (don't know if that's the correct English word though) |

I wouldn't mind that, y'know!

Yup, while there's a lot of heatsink-cooling fan combo out there, almost none can fit into the Voodoo5; most of them are CPU coolers, so I wonder if we can assemble our own combo using Zalman ZM-NB32J heatsink and a cooling fan.

Is it better than the Zalman?

You are correct Kreshna, though as I stated, the fans will be loosely screwed onto the heatsink. I have no idea how a more powerfull fan would act. |

what you can use on a 3dfx card is almost limitless, alot of coolers dont say anything about 3dfx(why would they its been 5 years) but they fit without modification, others need slight to heavy mod's to work but if you really try almost any will fit, i used 2 geforce4 copper collers on my v5 and they worked way better than the stock heatsinks, left one only need slight cut to fit, right one fit perfect. some ppl even put p3 coolers on them :)
anyways i thought id post a couple modded ones ive done most recent

both of these were for use with peltiers, but they can be used by themsels too, anyways lots more options than you might first think. |
