Um, yes and just don't worry about the problems I had in that thread PS47 has referenced - that card was DEAD so that was the real problem.

I purchased another MAC PCI Voodoo 5 5500 the other day and it flashed fine - even the DVI works!  You just have to ensure you use the version 1.18 BIOS.

I placed that vard in a Abit BE6 mobo with a PIII-500 running XP and the AmigaMerlin 3.1 drivers and I'm getting 40-60fps on Unreal Tournament! [:p]

Also, don't worry too much if the flash program locks up half way through programming the EEPROM - just reboot the PC and try again - it really is failsafe.[8D]

Hi there!!
So if I flash the V1.18 BOIS then I can use it on PC??
Can I use the file "1.18PCIDV" that I download from "http://welcome.to/3dfxbios"??
Does the DVI works well?
I have some questions:
My mainboard is GA-7N700L with a ATI R9700 on AGP8X,
if I put a VoodooMAC on a pci slot, which card should I link my monitor?
And how to flash the BIOS?

My English is poor, hope you can understand.
Regards,
Charly

Yes, I used the "1.18PCIDV" that I download from "http://welcome.to/3dfxbios" too.[8D]

Instructions are at http://welcome.to/3dfxbios as well.

DVI works great, but you can't use both the DVI and the SVGA at the same time (i.e. 2 monitors).

Put the monitor on the AGP card first so you can see what you are doing when you flash.

After you get the "flash successful" message, put the monitor on the PCI card and remove the AGP card.  Simple!

I'll try it when I get the card these days.
I'm so excited!!

@Chips:
does the card really works in SLI mode with the DVI bios? can you use 4x FSAA?

Chips

Yes 4xFSAA works fine.

Strange though - it doesnt seem to drop the framerate when I turn it on, but it looks very nice.  Sorry, I'm new to this whole Voodoo 5 thing - Just got it going the other day!

So are you suggesting that it's only in single chip mode or something??

Driver reports 64Mb of RAM, and it gives me the following options:

I know that some people had problems with driver functionality when using the DVI BIOS.its good to know everything is working fine for you..

Chips

Really?

What sort of problems?  Do you have a thread to point me to?[?]

Hi there!

I recently purchased two Voodoo5 5500's (PCI for MACINTOSH).

One was already PC flashed with the 1.18 bios enabling DVI! ....see picky

The other one, I had to exorcise myself! :D

Had trouble flashing the MAC card with the BIOS located @ 3dfxzone.it

Tried another one from http://welcome.to/3dfxBios
1.18 (Digital Output Enabled) under the heading Voodoo5 5500 Pci

It succesfully worked but the video BIOS bootup screen reported it as a Voodoo4 4000 or 4500.
(can't exactly remember which one)

Phreaked out and ended up dumping the working one I had, then flashed that one up! Both work great!
The DVI on both cards are SWEET!:)

Think about it, GLIDEā„¢ on DVI - no loss of picture quality through DAC. I highly recommend them.

P.S. You can grab my verified working BIOS file from here! (flash tools included)

well, if you read news section in Stanto's page you'll find this:
QuoteLooking through the 1.18 bios's for the Voodoo 5 5500, I've discovered, that for some reason in the bios with Digital Output enabled, it has the tag: "Voodoo4 4000 Supported BIOS - Version 1.18" this may explain why some people have been stating that their Voodoo 5 5500 is now claiming that it's a Voodoo 4. The only thing I can recommend is that you use the AGP 1.18 bios, as the only difference really is an ID tag in the bios anyway, from what I know of them. Hope that clears it up.

Anyways, thanks for your BIOS file :)

Thanks for that r21vo

Noticed too that alot of bios files have a .ROM file extention, while my biosdump and a few other one's out there are .BIN

renaming between the two formats wouldn't affect things would it? Maybe the Flash utility only likes .ROM files?

i did a little research on your submitted bios file, it's much different from the one on Stanto's page, also yours is dated 06/25 while the other is 06/13.
