If you wish a support for D3D, that will be under Win9x/ME or under Win2k/XP using a beta driver "Legendgrafix" but warning this driver is more alpha than beta so problems are not impossible.

Well, if the game doesnt offer Glide or OpenGL...It was not written right!

But seriously, I recently upgraded to WinXP myself and lost D3D support...but I really didnt have a problem because most of the games I play on my Voodoo2's are older classic glide stuff anyway like:

Half Life/Counterstrike 1.5
Unreal
Unreal Tournament
Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror
Turok
Turok 2
NFS III
NFS IV High Stakes
NFS V Porche Unleashed

I'm about to get D3D back again when I install my recently Aquired Voodoo 5 5500 PCI

But, I still prefer Glide/OpenGL over D3D anyday!

My XP home Collection...

Voodoo2 8Mb + Nvidia FX5200, Intel PIII-1.13Ghz, MS-6315
Voodoo5 5500 MAC PCI SLI, Intel PII 400, Intel P6LX-A+
Voodoo2 12Mb (SLI) + Geforce2 MX400, AMD K6-III+ 600Mhz, Jetway ALI 542C
Radeon 9250, Intel PIII 1Ghz, ABIT BE6
Radeon 9200SE, AMD K6-III+ 550Mhz, PC PARTNER VIA MVP3
Geforce 7800 GO, Centrino Duo 2.16Ghz, Dell Inspiron 9400

FastVoodoo 4.6 is supposed to support DirectDraw and Direct3D under Windows 98/ME, isn't it?

My problem is that even though I can see my Voodoo2 card in DirectX Diagnostics and even run the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests on it, I can't seem to switch to my Voodoo2 for DirectDraw applications anymore. Every DirectDraw application still uses my GeForce FX 5200.

On my old system, with a Voodoo2 and an ATI Rage Pro, this used to be no problem with the 3D Control Center program (available here at 3dfxzone). On my current system, although 3D Control Center still removes the "Display 2" tab in DirectX Diagnostics when I set it to "Primary Video Device", setting it to "Secondary Video Device" has no effect on any of my applications (such as The Typing of the Dead).

Any ideas? I'm using the 71.84 drivers for my GeForce FX.

well,if the D3D application runs on the FX,whats the problem? there is no reason to force voodoo2 if the FX can run it fine..

Well, that's just the problem, isn't it? Some older games have been known to have problems with newer video cards. Presently I am having problems running Septerra Core in fullscreen mode on the FX, and I want to try it on the Voodoo2.

I tried the DXTest package from http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm just now. ATest, Flip3D, and Tunnel use the Voodoo2, but DXLight and DXSpeed both insist on using the GeForce. Is this normal behavior? (The only thing I can say for sure is that on my old system, The Typing of the Dead always used the secondary video card, and now it isn't.)

It occurs to me that on my old system, I was only using the 4.11.2628 version of the Rage Pro drivers, which in theory only supports DirectX 6. Could it be that my Voodoo2 was being used because FastVoodoo2 supported a higher version of DirectX ? (At the time I was using FastVoodoo2 3.5.)

If so, does that mean that I'll just have to uninstall my FX drivers if I want to use my Voodoo2?

Uninstalling the GeForce drivers prevented Dxdiag from running on the Voodoo2 at all. (Its tab still showed up, but the Test DirectDraw button didn't do anything, and Test Direct3D was greyed out.)

Installing version 43.45 of the NVidia drivers has also not remedied the situation. In fact, clicking Test Direct3D on the Display 2 tab runs the test on the GeForce, not the Voodoo2! (The DirectDraw test still works properly, though.)

What's going on here? Is there no way for a Voodoo2 and a GeForce to coexist like the Voodoo2 and ATI Rage Pro did in my old system?

It's been a while since I ran Win98 with my voodoo2's but...

It used to be that the voodoo2 cards used to "hog" direct X and it was hard to force the PC to use the other graphics card...but it appears that you have the opposite problem!

Some ideas:

I used to use a switcher utility which would enable/disable the voodoo2 cards for DirectX. Maybe have a look around for some and see if they can work.

Also, running up "dxdiag" gives you the option of disabling certain D3D devices. Maybe try disabling the directX on the Nvidia card that way might allow the voodoo2's to be used.

Also what version of Direct X have you installed? It might not like the Voodoo 2s at all.

I guess I really only use my voodoo 2 cards for Glide and openGL stuff so I'm no expert in this.

Like I said, I've been using 3D Control Center, which used to work perfectly when I wanted to switch 3D cards. But not anymore. DirectControl is also suggested by MDGx, but I don't have the option to switch cards at all with that one.

If you try using the Disable buttons in DxDiag, you will find that they can only disable acceleration features on _all_ cards.

I am using DirectX 9, but it seems that I had that on my old system, too. (I have a backup of my hard drive from back then, so it's easy to check these things.)

Any other suggestions? I'm running out of ideas. (I still need to check if X-Setup can do anything here.)

Anybody?

Even 3DMark 2001SE will run on my Voodoo2 right now if I select it manually, but I still don't know how I can persuade anything else to use it automatically.

the game must have a configuration utility where you can choose your graphics adapter.if the game cant select the voodoo2,it will run on the primary card.

But like I said, I have seen specific games use the Voodoo2 automatically before, without a game-specific configuration utility, which aren't working now!
