It will help a lot if you tell us your configuration:

Motherboard
CPU
Memory
Harddrive(s)
Videocard
PSU (Power Supply Unit)

BTW, did you connect a power cable to the Voodoo?

It goes to a blue screen right after i enter my windows regristration code saying there is an error on device 009 which is my display adapter ( voodoo 5 5500 agp ) right before it tries to start the new hardware wizard.

1. Check if the card isn't loosely placed in your AGP port.
2. Try another videocard.
3. Try the Voodoo in another motherboard/system

The latter two will determine if it's your V5 or the AGP port on your motherboard.

I have been using the card for months now. in 2 different mobo's and it has always given me this problem when trying to re-install windows... i seem to be a stupid person and i download many many things from the internet contracting many virues along the way so my system files become corrupt quite often and require a re-installation i have changed the card before i just dont feel like going through the trouble... the card is in there firmly... hell when i installed the mobo i have now i had to install it w/ another vid card until i got it up and running and then i put my voodoo in it after i installed the drivers for it... but anyways thanks for your help and if u can offer anymore please do... I love this site and i have learned many things from it.... once again thank u all.

Well, how are u reinstalling are u installing over windows 98 with 98SE or did u format...

I suggest u format your computer if u can and try reinstalling that way. It could be a side effect of what Windows 98's Drivers or something... that's there already.

By the way I already had this problem once. You can also refer to your motherboard bios and manual to make sure there are no problems with your IRQ. Try also installing the drivers. I can't remember quite what I did but try installing drivers. I think Code 9 means it can't activate it or something.

no it doesnt say code 9 it says error on device 009 Which is my voodoo 5 5500 agp i know that for a fact i think the problem is that the default drivers for windows dont wanna run it properly and i cant format my pc i will lose 17 gigs of priceless software im not willing to part w/ and also i cant back it all up because there r a few problems w/ my comp... so i guess im stuck 'eh... but thanks for the advice... oh and there arent any irq's being double used. i have made sure that my voodoo gets its own because i know how touchy they can be... but like i said thanks for trying...

the only difference between 98 and 98se was some USB stuff and some networking stuff and of course some AGP stuff. try turning OFF "PnP OS present" in the MB bios which should be OFF no matter what os your using..... also try turning off the usb stuff in the bios. I think the asus PSB motherboards had an issue with the AGP port (a physical jumper or something for 2x/4x). also check to make sure your MB bios is up to date and NOT a beta...... one last thing, win98se HATES when the CDrom drive is a slave with no MASTER on the secondary port, and I have seen this one a zillion times when upgrading.....

Bloody Mess
