Epox KTA3+ (not K3A+); can it support Barton?

My friend has a KTA3+ for sale (I don't think it's KTA3+ PRO; just KTA3+ with RAID). It has Universal AGP Slot (which I can put my Voodoo5 5500), but at first I'm not very interested since it only has FSB 133; so it's worse than my A7V333.

BUT, I notice the Mobo has an ISA slot; which is good news since I can play DOS games with it. Not to mention Jetfighter III and EF2000, with my Voodoo5 5500.

Can it support Barton? Is it really different than K3A+? I failed to find the support for KTA3+ in Epox website; only KA3+.

I also read somewhere that gdonovan's KA3 works with Barton 3000+ (which surprised Obi-Wan Kenobi, but later confirmed by Nightbird). How about KTA3+? Can it do the same thing?

Thanks,

Nightbird

This mother board supports at the max. a fsb 266 (2*133) so it can't support a Barton (fsb 333 or 400).
According Epox :
Max Duron Morgan (fsb 200) : 1300
Max Athlon Morgan (fsb 200): 1400
Max Athlon Morgan (fsb 266): 1400
Max XP Palomino (fsb 266): 2100+

This is an excellent mobo :) Mine runs with a Duron 1300.

Thank you, Nightbird! I guess the ISA slot alone make it worth buying. After all, I'm going to use it for playing DOS GLide games!

Nightbird

The slot Isa is precious, the mobo supports the Raid and the bios is excellent. :)

Yup, it's the ISA slot that matters to me. I really plan to play DOS Glide games using Voodoo5. I wonder whether FSAA works for those games.

Anyway, can anyone help me?

(1) What are the DOS environment variables, and their respective values, to play DOS Glide games with Voodoo5?

(2) For DOS games only support Voodoo Graphics (Voodoo1) and incompatible with Voodoo2, is there any way for Voodoo5 to "emulate" Voodoo1? Probably more environment variables?

Thanks!

These variables?:)

Thanks, but too bad those list doesn't describe what each variable means; as well as their supposed values.

Fortunately, after some hotbot search, I have found the variables I need to enable FSAA in DOS (using DOS environment variables).

It's actually the Mesa 6.2 Release Notes written by none other than.... (guess who?) dborca himself!

Here's the environment variables to enable FSAA. Unfortunately, I haven't tested them in pure DOS myself since my Epox 8KTA3+ mobo (I need the ISA slot to enable sound in pure DOS) is still on shipping, but I'll keep you guys updated.

Now imagine playing EF2000 V20 or Red Guard with 4xFSAA....

How about an update?

Did you get EF2000 Gfx+ going on the Voodoo 5 5500??  What about FSAA??

I used to play EF2000 Gfx+ under Win98 no problems with the Voodoo 2 so I'm keen to know your environment variables to get it going on the Voodoo 5! [:p]

I'm on the case with this one too! Will post any developments with DOS Glide.

I thought I might post my EF2000.BAT file for the benifit of those wanting to run EF2000 Gfx+ for the first time. Also read the readme.txt for all the shortcut properties if you want to launch from the Win9X desktop. Recommended as the 32-bit memory handling is faster, but do all your testing in dos so as not to get scandisk every time you reboot via Ctrl+Alt+Del.  Once DOS is working fine use the Win9X shortcut. Here go's......... ;)
