I am thinking abaut giving on my Voodoo5 5500 256MB of Ram.
Has any one already done it??? Will it work???
Tyan Tiger MPX
Dual Athlon MP 2600+
1GB DDR400 Ram
500GB WD Blue Series
3Dfx Voodoo 5 5500, 4 4500,
voodoo 3 all series
voodoo 2 and 1

That won't work. The VSA 100 chips can only adress a maximum of 64 MB per chip, AFAIK. So the only thing that might work, is getting the V5 to 128 MB total.

Check falconfly's forum.
It's already done (128MB card). Card is being recognised as a 128MB card at startup but games won't use the extra 64MB, most likely a driver issue.

Nightbird

Sorry, not done (128 mb).
And if you're speaking about an other forum for the V5 128 mb, since they are known to be fakkers...

You would probably have better success putting faster RAM on the card.

unless you are some sort of scintiste who has accesse to a lab
and a bunch of VERY talanted peuple, you could do it. IF you
have the Voodoo scematics and paper work, all of it.

Wow think of it, a lab wich could acttually, change the VPU to
of a the Voodoo 1/2/3/4/5 (Bashee) with a same VPU but on a
smaller micron (let's say somthing like a 0.90 could be nice).
and also change the memory to a bigger one based on a DDR type.

Ufff, why did 3DFx managment was so stupid?!

changing vpu is like making a new card ;)

3dfx was just small company and thier development speed was killing them..

vider; I suggest you read this topic on FalconFly's forum entirely:

The only thing you need to replace your current RAM is the proper replacement RAM, soldering experience and a good soldering apparatus.

i think replacing the V4 4500 's 32MB RAM with 64MB -5/-4ns SDRAM, followed by BIOS overclock/4x FSAA Crack would be a really great idea, maybe it can blow GeForce 2 Pro DDR away when using 4xAA with superb image quality....

A GF2-pro gives a V5-6000 a run for the money, I doubt a hot rodded V4 would even come close.

Been there, ran the benchmarks.

seems Nv's AA ability is far behind Voodoo in terms of speed..
just read a review about a GeForce 2 MX and V4 4500...
V4 beats GF2MX seriously almost in all test when AA is opened...
this problem for GeForce Continue in GFFX series (i've tried a GeForce FX 5200, when 2XFSAA is opened,  it doesn't run with better visual quality but with terrible speed slowdown..

GeForce 2 MX vs V4 4500 with AA? gf2mx can't do AntiAliasing afaik.
and fx5200 is a low-end that's why AA so badly impacts performance.

as i can remember, there is option for GeForce 2 MX to enable FSAA....but i haven't tried it..you know, actually the cards at that time is never powerful enough to do FSAA...
the chance of V4 4500 i think is that i supports AGP 4X so new CPUs like P4 with over 3G and Athlon 64/FX can use it...and to explore its possibilities..
also giving more/faster memory to V4 4500 is the only project for VSA-100 proven working so far
