Is ot possible?
anyone tried it?
coz those copper nails is impossible to remove (they hold the heatsink tightly)
is it necessary for me to use a metal clipper to cut them so i can remove the heatsink ?

(Actually i am thinking of getting a active heatsink or heatpipe heatsink for both memory and core)

I haven't tried to remove a heatsink from a Voodoo3 3000. Why would you want to remove it? That heatsink is a very good one. The thremal compound they used is also good, not like the compound they used on the Voodoo5 5500.

because the heatsink for V3 3000 is a bit tiny for the GPU (it's very very hot) and i wanna replace it with something that can cover the memory chips also (thinking of the Zalman one....looks awesome~~)
the original heatsink then can be used to cool the north bridge~~

i will apply some kind of silver thermal compound if i replace the heatsink, i think this will be fine

the copper nails really dont hold it that securely, its really the thermal glue that holds it down

Oh, they use Thermal Glue instead of just grease?
too bad, then i won't try to remove the heatsink (usually those kinds of glue stick things very tightly)

secretfj,
the heatsink is not tiny for the GPU, it's huge!. It just misses a fan, that's all. I suggest you attach a small (say 486) fan to the heatsink and don't mess with the card.
I've had mine like this for 2 years and never gets hot;). The fan can be attached to the sink with a screw (or two)which can fit directly on the heatsink (it's aluminium after all[^])
Oh, and don't scrape off the thermal stuff between V3 and heatsink. It's of good quality.

Thanks guy...
yeah, the heatsink of V3 is bigger than my Radeon 9100VE, it just lacks a fan...but u know, add a fan = add some noise

and i originally thinking of this:

It's not just very hugh, it looks awesome too! (nobody will think of it as a old voodoo, but a powerful one, also with this and some memory heatsink, i can do good overclocking without worry overheating the card...)
I know is is more expensive than a V3 3000 (doubled the price of this 2nd V3 i have, but i think it's still worthy if i can install it)

Very good looks[8D] Impressive for a "see thru rig"!! (Should be expensive though)

Anyway, I don't think the mem chips on the V3 3000 need any heatsinking. They'd only look better:) (Most of them were 5.5ns)

secretfj

about 20-30 USD
while my V3 is bought at $10 USD

the best thing about the heatsink is that it is reusable

anyway, i will find a good fan for the original heatsink before i do anything more (i used to cool a creative TNT using 6" CPU Fan, the temp of the heatsink lowered from about 5-60 deg cel to 30deg cel...)
