Play games of course. I have both in my machine right now and i have tested them and the radeon is not much faster than the voodoo. I can play newer games with the radeon but it actually dosent matter for my compuer is not that fast.

Radeon 7000 is much more faster than single-board Voodoo2, you can use higher reolutions, drivers for win2k/xp supports Direct3D, Radeon supports bump mapping and anisotropic filtering, but if you use old PC (CPU 500MHz or slower) and prefer older games (3Dfx era), v2 could be better solution.

Radeon 7000(VE) is a cheap version of normal Radeon without hardware T&L..i had an PCI version, and i can tell you that if you use if to play games it can be a nightmare...
but it's still performs better than V2 when playing DirectX games
No way a 3DFX collector...just a 3DFX die Hard Player~~

let the VooDoo Roars!!

P4 Extreme Edition 3.4GHz
Asus P5AD2 Deluxe i925x
2GB DDR2 667 DDRRAM
Voodoo 5 5500PCI

Perhaps that your cpu is a bootleneck.

First drivers for R7000/VE were horrible, but this is past.

It's important to know, which version of R7000 is the mentioned card. R7000 has always 64bit mem. bus, but it's not so bad, if it's DDR version (HyperZ & HSR helps, too). And clocks? There are 143, 150, 155, 160, 166, 175 and 183MHz versions. (ref. Radeon from ATi: 183/183MHz DDR).

performance (theory)

V2: 1 pipeline * 2 TMUs
V2 SLI: 2 pipelines * 2 TMUs
R7000: 1 pipeline * 3 TMUs

single text. fillrate:

Voodoo 2: 90 MPix/s
Voodoo 2 SLI: 180 MPix/s
Radeon 7000: 183 MPix/s

dual layer:

Voodoo 2: 180 MPix/s
Voodoo 2 SLI: 360 MPix/s
Radeon 7000: 366 MPix/s

3 layers (max fill-rate):

Voodoo 2: 180 MPix/s (2 cycles)
Voodoo 2 SLI: 360 MPix/s (2 cycles)
Radeon 7000: 550 MPix/s (single pass/single cycle)

I think, that single-board V2 can not be competitive with R7000 (only with very old CPU), but it supports glide :-)

(sorry for my English)

Edit: but the question was "which one would you prefer". I'll prefer Radeon as primary VGA + D3D accelerator with V2 (SLI) for Glide acceleration ;-)
