Hi I was just messing around with my old voodoo2 the otherday on my 2nd comp and i wanted to play some CS on it. 1.5 works great and all that but 1.6 i can't select the 3dfx mini driver so it will run. If I select openGL it quits and tells me it won't run in that mode. I've tried renaming drivers for the game and searched the steam and CS forums but no one really knows anything about it so I decided to come here for some help:). anyone with some ideas?

i have exactly the same problem with my V2 but unfortunately this forum doesn't generate that much traffic so the chances of your problem being fixed are VERY slim.  anyway, if u want to check it out look for the topic called -> "fv2 4.0 xp and the case of the missing opengl"

CS 1.6 doesn't support now the 3dfx minigl since this version 1.6, this is the problem.
If you want to run in OpenGl, try to put a 3dfx opengl Icd in the steam directory and rename it opengl32.dll.

WickedGL works too
you have to put the opengl32.dll in
D:\steam\SteamApps\xxxx@yyyy\counter-strike

well i tried what you suggested and opengl games still don't work, what i did was replace the existing opengl32.dll with another one from the latest mesafx set.

in fact i've go so far as to install win98 with the win98 fastvoodoo voodoo2 drivers and opengl games *still* do not work, it keeps tuning me ,'will revert back to software mode'

What opengl games did you try ?

Interesting

I have the same setup as referenced in the other thread above (Rage ATI 4 Meg w/Voodoo2 accel).  Copying the opengl32.dll drivers to my game directory has worked with some success.

In particular, the Wicked drivers work, but they seem stuck in 16 bit mode.  However, they *do* work with a copy of STEAM.  I'll post more later on, but I suggest that brett56 try it again.  Note that you will have to put the driver in each game directory under your username.

I can't figure out why NEVER that opengl32.dll driver work for me with any games... not even wickedGL do...

I am using two voodoo2's mismatched in SLI, win98se, fastvoodoo 4.6, and it works fine for D3D games (mech warrior 3, gta2, etc). The only game it worked (with some trouble) using drivers different from D3D, was Quake2, that I realised that only one of the v2 cards does the video output for the game (the other keeps black screen) -- figure out why...

Now, in any game I try to use the MesaFX or OpenGL drivers, I have always no success... Using WickedGL in quake2, I can achieve even a lockup on my system; GTA2 did not work with the MesaFX drivers (I followed carefully the installation steps, of copying fxmemmap and glide3x to windows/system dir (win98se) and opengl32.dll from MesaFX root dir to the game's root dir... The GL driver is simply unable to start... it treats like if I have no 3d card in my system. But why, then, d3d games work as well?..

WARNING to all steam/voodoo users,do NOT place any opengl32.dll in your ..\steam\SteamApps\xxxx@yyyy\counter-strike folder,THIS WILL GET YOU BANNED! if you need to play a steam based game on a voodoo card, place wickedgl/3dfx ICD opengl32.dll to your windows/system (system32 for xp) folder (xp users will have to disable file protection first).dont forget to back up the original file.
