ps47 already made it fairly clear:

Call of Duty wont run on a voodoo3,I have done all I could to get it working.the problem seems to be s3 texture compression, looks like the game wont run unles it can be faked or turned of..

So, unless dborca, the main developer of MesaFX, goes against everything he's said and implement some sort of texture compression into MesaFX, this game will be impossible to play on a V3. Or you can find some way to run the game with decompressed textures (hey, vice city can do it).

I can't :D the facts remain just the same. It'll be darn slow. Although I guess I could give it a shot... [:p] No promises, tho... I'm quite busy!

the game itself can run in 16-bit,but not on a voodoo3 (for now)..

Could not load OpenGL.  Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's web site.

i have MesaFx but it doesn't help

2 problems :
1) using colorbits of 32
2) video card cannot set mode 640x480 because GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE is only 256

1) you need to tweak the config. file in 16 bits
but that will not sufficiant unluckily
2) because the Voodoo 3 supports only the textures 256*256 and the game uses more textures

The only hope is here :
dborca posted - 03/15/2004 - "I can't  the facts remain just the same. It'll be darn slow. Although I guess I could give it a shot...  No promises, tho... I'm quite busy!"

If this is not possible, Call of Duty will be a no-go for the Voodoo 3  [:(]

Guys, calm down and clear your mind.[8)]
If the game can run in 16-bit mode, then it's not an S3TC issue because those textures are uncompressed (i think[:0])
And 256 texs is not a problem with mesafx, because it can resize large textures (i.e. NWN[:p])
So, the game could be played (in theory) with the right little .bat file containing the MESA_FX_MAXLOD variable. Sorry I don't have the game now and I can't try it[8)]

well dont think.I have the game and I know how to use mesafx, and trust me,cod wont run.
basically, you need a geforce class card to run this game.tnt2 wont run cod,and guess what is the main difference between a tnt2 and a geforce?yes its hw T&L and texture compression..
you can take a look at all supported extensions v3-v5 comparison if you want..

definitely looks like texture compression..

Nightbird

Call of Duty needs S3TC and a Voodoo3 can't run it.

General, what card are you trying to use? I think you need to create a new thread for your problem (this one should really be locked with a message at the end that says "Call of Duty WILL NOT RUN ON A VOODOO 3!"). I think what you need is MesaFX, so long as you're using a Voodoo 4/5 card, if you're using a Voodoo 3, well, read above.
