what good vcard can i use to my k6-2 500 system...whihc will give higher framerates? the voodoo5 5500, the voodoo3 2000 or voodoo2 12mb SLI? thanks!!!!!!!

Voodoo 2.
You won't get full performance from a V5 or V3 on a 500MHz system (you need at least about a 2GHz system for that).

but you will get free FSAA when you use a voodoo5...
ECS K7s5a@ 147 MHz, Athlon XP 1600+@1825+, Voodoo5 5500 @166 MHz, 512mb pc3200

Yeah and 32bit colours. But it's still a waste to put a V5/3 in a 500MHz system.

not really, my friend's old PC has (and still) a V3 2000 PCI on a 233MHz. Running really great!

I also believe you get the voodoo 2, see some cpu scaling benchmarks for the voodoo 2 here http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/19980204/index.html

Knuckles, it's not about the performance you get, it's about the performance you miss out on with a 500MHz CPU.
The V5 performs at least two times as good with a 2GHz CPU as with a 500MHz CPU.

true.... so the TS just has to look for some prices.... and get the cheapest of all three options, since all three options will fit good enough in his system...

If you buy a voodoo 5500 pci you can always use it if you choose to upgrade your computer, otherwise i will take back what i wrote earlier and say that you should get a voodoo 3.

samuraiboy

well i have all of those... can i benefit on the geforce2 and a voodoo2 SLI combination? thanks to the help guys!!!

Nightbird

Well, this is a K6-2/500, i would say that the "last" gfx cards will wait the Cpu...

Yes, a geforce 2 (non-MX, GTS is fairly good, and I bought one for $10) would be a good compliment for your system specs, if you're running anything that is more demanding then the GF2 can handle, you'll run into the CPU bottlenecking.

Hehe! Why, my (samurai)boy? You wanna die young?

Tis remembers me of something: suppose you have a B/W TV and you're happy with it. Some day, you go over to a friend who has a Color TV to watch your favorite movie. I bet that when you return home, you feel like throwing your B/W off the window.

My point is, this kind of mentality brought 3dfx' doom. And their doom was by no means DoomIII. [:(]

yup, 3dfx bring so much visual quality with the voodoo5 that they forgot about the framerate issue... as long as the game has good visuals and has a fast framerate, its fine with me...
