Hi all,

I've recently been restoring an old pentium 1 MMX PC (full project info here: http://ridgedpixel.co.uk/jason/viewtopic.phpf=3&t=36&sid=7b12abfa855f12f7db8006b7305831bd )

It came with a Diamond Voodoo 1 card but this was a tiny bit weak for UT 1 so... I've ordered a pair of 12mb STB Blackmagic Voodoo 2's + SLI cable.

The reason for my post is... I'm curious if my CPU, a Pentium 1 MMX 200Mhz @ 233Mhz will hold these cards back or not? Also which would be the best driver to use with these cards?

Any other addition information i may want to know of or anything would be great :)

Thanks in advance! :D

Hi rotunda,

first of all, you're welcome here.

A Pentium 1 MMX 200Mhz @ 233Mhz CPU works well with two Voodoo2 in SLI. Of course, your 3dfx system is CPU-limited with the complex games at high resolutions like 1024 x 768 pixel, but in general any supported game will be playable.

Regarding the software configuration, you can go towards Windows 98SE with the FastVoodoo2 4.6 driver for your 3dfx Voodoo2 graphics accelerators.

Let me know.

Bye bye

Hi Glide,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Are you sure the P1 233Mhz's work well with it? As I actually got it today... and It's running OK, but not as i expected... I was expecting pretty high FPS @ 1024x768 but infact Unreal Tournament 1 runs at about 25? FPS I know these are old cards but i thought it would run faster?

Here's some pictures of it arriving today and being fitted.

One question i have for you guys, Is this setup correctly?

QuoteRegarding the software configuration, you can go towards Windows 98SE with the FastVoodoo2 4.6 driver for your 3dfx Voodoo2 graphics accelerators.

Initially I used the last official 3DFX drivers...

I then used the FastVoodoo2 4.6 driver I didn't really see much difference between the two (probably due to CPU limitations?) What are the main advantages for the FastVoodoo2 4.6 drivers??

Any advice would be helpful as I really want to get these cards running at their best. I love 3DFX, always wanted one as a child it's nice to finally have one even though my main pc has a Nvidia GTX 650 1GB :D

Hi rotunda,

I'm happy you love 3dfx :).

I repeat: you can use one or two Voodoo2 cards with a Pentium (I) based system. You can get good frame rates (25fps @ 1024 x 768 with UT on a little processor is a good value). But of course, your Voodoo2 SLI setup can show off much higher frame rates if you build a Pentium 4 or Athlon based system.

FastVoodoo2 4.6 is the latest driver for Voodoo2 and Windows 98: it adds optimizations and other configuration tools. I suggest this one to you!

Bye bye

Hi Rotunda, beautiful cards you got here.

Your Voodoo2 SLI could be very efficient on
UT Glide if you change your MB + CPU for a
more powerfull one, because your CPU is very weak
for UT at high fps.

For example :
An AMD Socket "A" Motherboard based on
KT266A or KT333 chipset and
T-BRED Athlon XP 2000+ or better.

Abit, Epox, Msi, Gigabyte are good brands.
