Hi everyone @ 3dfxzone.it:) It has been a long time that I ever did a 3dfx collection topic here, but I think now it is the time, since something interesting was added [8D]

It's a lot smaller but there is a new addition a Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev.A2 3500 Pre-Production Prototype :) it's one of two Rev.A2 3500's known in the oworld, goriath and I are it's only owners. There may eb more of course, but so far none of them have been found. Many thanks go to rottentreats for helping me out :D :D [8D]
He has proven that he has changed and he gave me a very good deal, and everyone knows what I mean here, I wasn't ripped off it was a very good deal, in other words no capitalism was taken place! So this is good news after all for that matter alike [8D]

Its not massive like most out there, I am very selective as card types go and I use them all as well, so collecting factory sealed or boxed ones has no meaning yet, that can change, but for now that has noo interest nor importance.

So here my 3dfx collection for what it is now:

I will make better pics of the Rev.A2 3500 once it arrives and I will compare it with the Rev.A 2500 also  8)

As you can see, the Voodoo5 5500 AGP x4 64MB Rev.A2 3500 is about a full inch orsay 2.5CM shorter than the regular Voodoo5 5500 AGP Rev>A 2500.

Gdonovan a famour 3dfx collector found out why these cards were smaller than their larger counterparts:

"Judging by the date and configuration of the PCB, it suggests that this PCB would have superceded the longer board we know so well. It has an AGP x 4 connector, has a DVI spot on the PCB (perfect for G4 Mac applications) and compared to a normal V5 PCB is shorter and uses less components which saves money so you can offer the card at a lower price."

An other important note:
" Even though these cards have a 4x connector they operate at 3.3 AGP volts & 1/2x AGP mode only.

That was because the SLI function disabled the VSA-100 to function in AGP x4 mode, it was something like this, I will ask around about this though, it would be interesting to find out more of these cards, the Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700 which I had twice, also had the AGP x4 connector, but it too only could function @ AGP x2 @ 3.3AGP voltage."

Also this is the reason why AGP x4 never worked:
"Although the card features an AGP4x/8x compatible connector, it works only with 3.3V. That's at least the thing when it comes to other Rev A2 cards of that type. Maybe within week 35 3dfx changed something.
The VSA100 SLI connection internally works only with PCI66, so no, it doesn't work with or benefit of AGP2x/4x. Only AGP1x, which is simply double PCI 33 => PCI 66."

More here:
http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/pro_v5.htm

gdonovan only has the Rev.A1 3000, there was also a Rev.A2 3300 with and without the DVI-D.
the Rev.A2 3500, the one I have is the latest V5 5500 ever made but also the rarest of the 5500 AGP x4 cards, so far only two are know world wide, there might be more, but it seems that 3dfx only made two batches of these Rev.A2 3500's, back then you had 10 cards per batch, makes it a total of 20 Rev.A2 3500's.

The following cards I do not have anymore, I do know their keepers, but I keep them secret, just for their own protection from hoarders, capitalists and 3dfx abusers.

That cards that looked very similar to the 5500 AGP x4 were the Voodoo5 5000 AGP's I had, so here some pics so you can compare them with the 5500 AGP x4 I have now :)

Here my first 3dfx Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700 Prototype:

And my second 3dfx Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700 Prototype:

High-Res:

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/34136-2/3dfx+Voodoo5+5000+AGP+32MB+Rev_A0+3700+Prototype+Headshot_001.JPG

The second card was less stable than the first one, rofl.

After the second 5000 AGP, I also had a Voodoo5 5000 PCI 32MB Rev.A1 0900, but like them two 5000 AGP's I sold this one due to the need of money, I still hated that I did this, but due to my disability it left me no choice, at least they went to good hands, that is all that comes to my mind about them now.

Later during my Voodoo5 5000 Adventure I also added the Voodoo5 5000 PCI 32MB Rev.A1 0900 to the lot for research:

To give you an indication how small the Voodoo5 5500 AGP & 5000 AGP x4's were I made a comparison shot of the 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Engineering Sample + 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev.A 2500 Production board & 3dfx Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700 Prototype:

Top Voodoo5 6000
Middle Voodoo5 5500
Bottom Voodoo 5 5000 AGP x4, same size as Voodoo5 5500 AGP x4:

Anyways all these cards were very educate for me and for the entire 3dfx community, even that I hate being disabled, at least I had these cards and learned a lot form them as well and that I was able to provide the needed research of them too, which you can read here at my Descent League, which I Co-Founded with a good friend:
http://dtaskforce.forumotion.com/t14-a-way-to-get-dxx-rebirth-up-running-on-your-3dfx-voodoo4-5-vga-cards-research

Anyways I will keep this topic up to date after the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x4 64MB Rev.A2 3500 arrives, I also plan to do soem research with it as I did with them Voodoo5 5000's [8D] :)

So stay tuned! [8D] :D

Hey nice catch!!! Congrats! :D :D :D

Hmm I even wonder how many were there actually? Perhaps a few hundred?

All I do know is that the first 3dfx collectors I seen with this card were Sloomy & Rolo01 :) But that was ages I ago, even that I saw them with the 5500 AGP x4 Prototypes [8D]
As drivers go would AmigaMerlin 3.1 R11 work okay? or do these need a special driver like the 5000's do also?

The OS I use is Win2KPro UK + SP4

Okay here are the pics of the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x4 64MB Rev.A2 3500, These are pics I also posted at a few other hardware websites I go to, but this time it's 3dfxzone's turn hehe :)

Also I have compared the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x4 64MB Rev.A2 3500 with a production model of the card type the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev.A 2500 :)

There was also a 5500 AGP x4 with a DVI-D, which Gdonovan has.

3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP + DVI 64MB Rev.A2 3300 Pre-Production Prototype

This card would of been the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB For Macintosh in USA and the 3dfx VoodooMAC AGP 64MB in Europe

Well I'll do my best, I have Win2KPro UK + SP4 & WinXPPro UK + SP3 installed on my test systems[8D]
I will try 98SE installed, well that is if I can find it, since that would be nice for that 3dfx Info tab, right:)

Give it a go under Win98SE too Master Jedi.
So far seems to be the best enviroment for voodoo cards.

And yes, I always wondered myself why the 3dfx info tab is missing in the other OS, like XP and Win7.[}:)]

What drivers so you intend to use ?

For DXX-Rebirth I need Win2KPro or later, so SFFT Alpha 41 modified by ps47, for Descent 3 and other glide games AmigaMerlin 3.1 R1. With AM 3.1 R1 I can then test 1600 x 1200 x16 with 3dfx Glide API + FSAA x4, the same that omega_supreme did with his Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 at the same reso, but with FSAA x8:
http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=963

Win98SE is major drama on my end, all the glide games I plan to test run fine under Win2KPro + SP4 which is my favourite all time OS. I only need 98SE for that Info tab, for the rest I prefer Win2KPro + SP4 rofl :D [:o)]

But yer, I will see what I can do there.:)
