Hi!
to all the nice people here :)

I bought a desktop pc. And it's great for my work. I'm not a gamer too and that's why i'm not familiar with the particular requirements for each game. I deal great with computers, but not when it comes to video cards. All the games, that i love, are runnig except for LEGACY OF KAIN - DEFIANCE. Although i've read many forums and searched here too for an answer, i still don't have it.

The problem is, i have this Intel GMA 950, which unfortunately does not support hardware TnL. And of course at first i didn't know that. Since then i'm trying to find some way to run the game, but it just gives me some kind of "we don't support your graphic card" message. I tried 3D-Analyze + other tools and many possible configurations + different driver versions with no luck at all. Well... i managed to run the game and even start the first chapter on lowest detail level, but it's worse than a slideshow - looks like i get a new frame every 2-3 seconds, which can't be considered playable :) It's sad, because I don't want to buy a video card only for that game. And i'll have to change the power supply too if i buy one...

So do you have any ideas how to run LOK - Defiance and actually play it without any of the "slideshow effeects" ? Or some hints that might help me?

Thank you in advance!

My computer specifications are:

MB:                             Asus P5L-MX
Physical Memory:      1015 MB
Minimum Graphics Memory:   64 MB
Maximum Graphics Memory:   128 MB
Graphics Memory in Use:   7 MB
Processor:              Intel Celeron D
Processor Speed:      3333 MHZ

Accelerator in Use:      Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family
Video BIOS:              1295

Which is many times better than the minimum requirements for Legacy Of Kain - Defiance. Except for the graphic card.

P.S. it's possible, that Defiance really needs so much hardware TnL, that even 3D-Analyze's emulation can't help, but i don't want to believe that :)

Hi Cruzado,

first of all welcome here and thanks for posting.

Besides, jumping to your question, a happy response is hard to get due to not optimal performaces of Intel graphics units (in general). However, please update Intel GMA 950 driver as well as motherboard's chip-set driver with latest available releases and then try to set-up yout preferred game by 3D-Analyze. Read this tutorial - https://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/articles/3d_analyze_user_guide/ - and configure 3D-Analyze being your gpu a DirectX 8 / DirectX 8.1 compliant product (see page 2 of previous tutorial).

Good luck and let me know your results,

Bye bye.

It works with the "emulate HW TnL caps" option activated. But the game runs very slowly...

Thanks to Glide, and let me know if you discover a solution for the new problem

Thanx, but i've read already almost "everything" here about the 3danalyze's emulation. I'm still trying my best, but i believe that insuficient hardware TnL is the problem... don't know how to deal with that with 3danalyze :)

update:

i've tried to add the pixel shaders and other stuff - some of the things i've tried earlier - and it's still not working. it runs, but it's not playable at all. if you start the game my way, you'll see the following: you press jump and after a few seconds Kain jumps, and this jump lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds. :)

i've downloaded the latest drivers (december'07) from intel's site. it's still the same. though there was somewhere written, that those "latest drivers" will have a great Software TnL support...

i used the counters from 3danalyze. when i watched the movies it said: ~128 (i think that is the fps  measure), but when the menu loaded, the measure dropped to 1-2 :) hopeless... and the video ram used was between 25-30mb, which is strange, because the game needs at least 32mb. so i think there is something here... if only i can find a way to use all of the remaining video memory... (btw i set video memory to FIX 128mb from the BIOS settings).

so... if there is some sort of video memory manager, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel :) but i haven't any luck finding one. thought there are plenty of ram managers...

any ideas?

or i may be wrong.

does that mean LOK Defiance gets only 2 fps while using 93mb of video ram?
then it means there's no other way but buying a video card... sh*t :(
