Hello, I'm new to these forums but thought I would ask here for help.

I found an application that tricks the games into thinking that the voodoo5 5500agp has Hardware T&L.  Its called 3DAnalyze, (I have version 1.64).  It calculates through the CPU.  I can not get the application to work.  The message that halo gives is my computer doesnt meet the minimum memory requirements for the card, it detects it as an 8MB 3DFX TNT2 M64.  So obviously thats wrong, but when I click the "continue anyway" button, it states "A problem occured initializing Direct3D.  Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG."

Maybe I have the wrong settings on 3D Analyze?  Or possibly need to adjust the settings on my video card?  Possibly I should use an earlier version of direct 8?  I'm really not sure.

Like I said, I can not get the game to run.  I am using DirectX V9.0c on this comp.  Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Erik

Forgot to add some things.  Running Windows 98SE and also have tried using the modified config.txt file in the root halo directory.  Still same problem.  This bums me out cuz I see other topics here where people got it to work.  Only difference is they used other drivers I think?

You shouldn't need to tell 3dAnalyze that you havn't a different type of card. Your'e best bet is to edit the config.txt file in the Halo game directory to remove the use of render targets and also to not report the Voodoo 5 as an unsupported card. you could try using the modified config.txt posted elsewhere in these forums, I suspect that it will work under Win9x aswell as W2k/XP, or if doesn't you could use it as a guide to modifying the config.txt file generated by the Halo installer. You may need to emaulate T&L Caps using 3DAnalyze or you might get away without using 3DAnanlyze at all. Halo does not required Hardware Transform and Lighting support, it will run with software Transform and Lighting support which is doe by the Direct3D runtime. I am not convinced that anyone has got Halo running well on Win9x thus far as the Win9x drivers don't seem to be up to it.

Hello, SFFT

Thank you for the reply.  I have tried the modified config.txt file and had no success, still same errors.  Perhaps you can tell me exactly what lines to remove?  I am really no good with modifying such files [xx(]  I couldn't even find the voodoo5 card in the config file?  So I'm not sure where to remove it.

Perhaps the problem lies in my display drivers?  I am using the Amigamerlin v2.9 drivers for this card.  Perhaps I should try updating them next?

Btw- Go 3dfx! w00t! :D
I built a gaming rig dedicated to one game, Red Baron 3D.  A GREAT flight sim, lots of modern new patches make, you can get t it look like a current flight sim.  Visit www.wings-of-valor.net  You can get the game for FREE! (hush hush ;))

Erikbaron4,
did I read your posting right, you are trying to run Halo under Win98 ?
I have a config file for Halo@Win98, I ran it some time ago with the nuangel5 drivers. Those drivers are based on the beta core from 02/2001. Halo runs but you can experience random crashes.
Let me know in case you need the config file and/or the driver for Win98.

Yes, that sounds wonderful Rolo.  I'd appreciate both the drivers and the config file you used.  Are there any possibilities of me damaging my card by installing these beta drivers?

By trying to install and run halo, I am trying to show my friend here that it is possible, (he doesn't believe it can run on a voodoo ;) )  I also kinda want to do it just to say I have, guess I'm kinda like most overclockers lol! [:p]

Email address is in my profile.

Thanks!

btw, modified config file for win9x? sounds interesting, whats the difference from the one for xp?

technik733

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the only difference is that the config file for 98 only has support for up to voodoo 3? That's odd... I think the "XP file" would be better for 98 because it includes voodoo 4 and 5. I don't even see the point of the "98 file" in fact.
