Voodoo Frequency Selector

Hello,

I'm having a problem with Voodoo Frequency Selector.

The adjusted refresh rates work fine, however, I can only increase refresh rate but not reduce it. Once I do this and restart my PC, the next time I run the tool, I cannot reduce refresh rate.

For example:

Say, currently I have 800x600@100Hz. Then, say, I increase the refresh rate to 120Hz and restart my PC. After this I will not be able to change it back to 100Hz again. The 100Hz option will be available within the program (dropdown menu), however, even if I select it and restart my PC, and then again run the tool, it will still display 120Hz.

So right now I have 640x480 set at 140Hz, but would like to reduce it to 120Hz, but it's impossible to do.

Could anyone please help me solve the problem? What do I do to reduce my refresh rates?

I have Voodoo3 2000 PCI + Amigasport 3.0 XP.

Thank you.

PS. Please do not suggest ReForce, it simply does't work on my system (XP Pro SP2). VFS does work.

Under DxDiag, it's a help tab.
Inside you will find an option to set any DirectDraw RefreshRate.
This value will work for any resolution, so be sure that your monitor can handle it at any resolution.

Be sure also that you have the right inf. for your monitor or at least a plug 'play and not an unknown monitor.

Or download PowerStrip and try to see if you can set the refresh rate manually.

Thanks, I have already contacted the developer of this program and he explained me what caused the problem.

This is the answer from the author himself.
Many thanks to you for your fast reply

Ok, here it is again, also explaining how the program works (no magic at all). ;-)

The voodooo drivers store a list of possible resolutions and frequencies (possible for the graphics adapter, completely independant
from the attached display properties) within the registry. So you first need to create a backup of the original settings stored
BEFORE doing any modifications: That's what the .RHF file is for (Registry Hive File). I also supplied some of these backup files
with the program (for all the official drivers available back then).
When you change the minium refresh rates within the program and apply the settings, the program simply removes the according registry values.
If you want to set lower rates againg after doing modifications, you simply have to apply "standard values" first (there's a button for that). Doing so, the program will restore the complete registry settings from it's .RHF file (that's why you should create it before modifying...) so that you can select all the possible frequencies again.
If all of that failes to restore lower rates, a reinstallation of the graphics driver will always make these available again.

Note that it is possible to select minimum frequencies beyond the capabilities of your display (as the program doesn't query these).

Also note that the program is some years old and that I don't own any voodoo graphics adapter for some years now, so that I won't do
any further development on that program. I know that there are still some enthusiast people out there who are releasing new drivers
for the voodoo cards, so it *might* be possible that there are some drivers out there which store the resolutions / frequencies in a
completely diffenrent way, which could make my program fail completely.

If there is anyone who would like to do further development on that program, the source code (Borland Delphi 4 / 5 code) is
available here: http://www.tdfc.de/english/products/voodoofreqselsource.htm
The last version (compiled binaries) that I wrote is available here: http://www.tdfc.de/english/products/voodoofreqsel.htm
Also note that there are some bugs within the driver versions that I used back then, which I listed here:
http://www.tdfc.de/english/products/voodoodriverbugs.htm
