Hi all,

I just build a second rig to surf internet and some occasional game playing. The problem is that I tried Need for speed Porsche unleashed and Unreal Tournament and they both freeze at the introduction, doesn't even let me start the game. I tried WinMe, XP Pro SP1, Dx8.1, DX9c, Voodoolizer, 3DHQ, Default XP drivers, Amigamerlin's, and none of them solved the problem. I'm starting to loose hope on making my V5 work with games. I thought this could be related to low phisical memory (128MB) or some ACPI/IRQ conflict. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I build this rig just to use my V5.

Best regards,

I would try setting your BIOS to "safe" defaults.remove all hardware like sound cards and modems, leave just the voodoo5,and see if it helps (you may need to do this on a clean instal of win, preferably win98se)..

128MB isn't even enough RAM to run WINXP.  256MB minimum if you want to run anything more than just the desktop.  could be just sound related too.
Bloody Mess

Thanks for the tips fellas, but I just installed a fresh copy (like al the previous ones) of Windows98 and the same problem occur. This is so annoying! I tried without the modem and the sound is on-board on the K7M, tried safe settings on BIOS relaxing memory timigs (2-2-2-5 is mem SPD btw)

When I run direct draw test the second cube (Hardware) is all messed up with lines and meshes all over the place...

Try running the V5 in single chip mode.
In case there are no errors then, this could indicate that one VSA100 is dying.

ps47

yes, this indicates hardware problems with the voodoo5,single chip is a good idea.one last thing: try cleaning the agp connector and slot.while it looks stupid,it has worked for me once (one supposedly dead v5 miraculously came back to life)..

KODE

That´s what I was afraid of... Will try cleaning the AGP connector and slot. Regarding running the V5 with a single chip, how can I do that? via voodoo tools?

Thanks a lot fellas.

Just set it to single chip did it did the trick, no more meshes and lines on Direct draw test! I tried UT with 3DFx Glide and it runs perfectly no artifacts no flashing textures. This indicates a 100% hardware problem? Will try to clean it and see what happens, wish me luck fellas!

just open the anti-aliasing options in 3dfx tools, there is a mode named "single chip"..

Just found the problem: C100 capacitor near the AUX Power connector is missing!!! Anyone know its value so I could try to find a similar at my work? Written on top: 10-16s-0I4

first, you will need a detailed screenshot of the missing capacitor (actually, detailed description would be enough).then, you need to find an identical capacitor and solder it to its place.an I would also go and kick the sellers sorry a$$.

Hi ps47, just posted a picture of my V5 on the link above. I already replaced the cap with a 10uF 50v one(as recommended at work) but it didn´t fix the problem :( time to kick someone´s a$$
