Hi!
I've got a Voodoo 4 4500 L-shaped card, it fits AGP 4x/8x 1.5V slot, and worked me perfect in MSI nForce 420Pro mainboard in AGP 4x mode, but I read on FalconFly it's impossible. :) So I'd like to ask, how could it work for me? Thanks.

The card is most likely from PowerColor. These cards are 3.3Volt AGP2x cards even though they have the AGP4x notch.

Only built by 3dfx Voodoo 4's are 1.5Volt.

I didn't find any rev number, just S/N: M42815 and 2 other such like numbers: 210-0908-01 at the back side of the card and 210-0435-001 at the front side (this is white painted).
But my card looks a little different like on picture of FalconFly (http://falconfly.de/identify/3dfx_Voodoo4-4500_AGP_L-Shaped.jpg), it has just one little capacitor, not 2 big, and it hasn't 2 "6R8 BI" whatsit. :) And it has APistek cooler instead of AAVID.
Looks like this:

That first one is the 3dfx prototype 'L' card. The second one is the PowerColor card.

But it worked in a mb that support just 1.5V. How? Both weren't damaged.

I've read about some people using a 3.3Volt card in a 1.5Volt AGP slot.
It worked fine for a couple of months but then the cards went dead.

Can't remember where I read it, I think it was on FalconFly's forums.

When I recall right, it was Oscar with his V5-5500 AGP4x.
He used it for about half a year in a i865 mainboard and it worked OK.
But then the card was dead, out of a sudden.
This is very sad, especially when using a prototype card...

Anyone who use a prototype is insane, he killed a peculiar piece of computer history...

I'm pretty sure the powercolor cards work just fine in a 1.5V slot.  it was the V5 that had problems, and I only heard of the one.  if the notch is present, it will work in a 1.5V slot.  I have seen some OTHER manufacturers boards (diamond viper) that needed the jumper to be physically moved in order to work in a 1.5V slot, but these were before the 1.5V slot had become a reality past the drawing board.

I don't believe it, this test is wrong, how can a 4500 beat out a 5500?

I will have to pull my evilkings out of the boxes to look.  looks like there are some SLIGHT differences that may make a 3.3V capable board run them at 3.3V instead of 1.5V (resistors on the board show the motherboard what to set the voltage and speed to)......  I do not see any problem running one in a 1.5/0.8V capable board, as the card will only see 1.5V max and the cards ARE rated to 1.5V OR 3.3V.....  the V5 4x board is only ONE prototype that was blown, so this is NOT a good indicatoe of what the evilkings are capable of voltage wise.  the dual chip nature of the V5's prohibited the 4X AGP motherboard bridge chips from running them correctly anyways.

3dfx v4-lcard is agp 4x 1.5v and its no protype, just the same as the regular v4 4500 card, as far as it being faster than a v5, it is and it isnt, first off it is if bandwidth isnt a problem in a new mobo and cpu, no matter what ppl say a cpu will take up where a 3dfx card leaves off, i got a score of 4100 with my L-card at low settings 2001se with a 3200 400fsb, same in games, as long as badwidth not needed, v5 scores higher in bandwidth though of course. o for those that say the  3dfx cant make use of a faster cpu, wrong, the card might stop but the cpu wont,
you live on your knees im gonna die on my feet.
