You have to use 3D-Analyze und emulate/skip Pixelshadercaps. To config the game (max visibility range=50%, detailFX=low) you need an other graphics card, because the game crashes immediatly if you choose advanced options. The resolution sticks @ 800x600x32 and 2xAA is needed if you don't wanna ave poor fps with graphical glitches...

Have fun and enjoy the heat haze :D

EDIT:  Ok, forget the statement about AA, it depends on the 3D-Analyze Version. V. 2.36 leads to flickering and stuttering but Version 2.25c works fine. But I still don't know how to set another resolution than 800x600x32 - or how the prevent the game from crashing at advanced options...

INSTRUCTIONS:

x) Download and copy gta_sa.set into "My Files\GTA San Andreas User Files"
x) Download 3D Analyze 2.25c an set emulate pixel shader and bumpmap caps
x) Enjoy the game!

I have a dual graphics card configuaration @ my PC. I boot from AGP (6800GT) and choose with display settings the graphics card, which i wanna use in the moment.

This config works perfect with my voodoo5 PCI. The only Problem is that GTA-'SA starts by default with high details (Polygonal shadows...) which leads to stuttering. And for setting lower details you have to go to advanced options, because the gta-sa.set file is not readable with an texteditor.

And because of the strange fact, that gta-sa crashes immidiatly if you choose advanced options, when running with voodoo, you have to change the settings with another graphics card (which is capable of pixelshaders, i think). I even tried to change the vendor id, but it didn't prevent gta from crashing.

If you did the settings an start the game again with your voodoo card, the game will take all new settings (visibility range, details fx) but not the resolution. So it sticks @800x600x32 (=gta-sa default), and I still found no way how to change it for my voodoo card (file@readonly does'nt help either).

I may upload my gta_sa.set file, but i don't know if it helps anyone...

Ok, understood now :)
and your config_file can perhaps help
I wonder if others games would not start easier if they were setup in first with an other gfx card for lower settings [?]

I think the main Problem is the gfx recognition by each game. If 3dfx driver would give back various caps which games need, but the 3dfx card does'nt support, game compatibility would be better.

You see it with HW t&l. Newer 3dfx drivers emulate HW t&l (great thanks to our driver writers. gta-sa with 3dfx hw t&l is about 10 times faster than forced SW t&l by 3d analyze) - and so game compatibitly is much better.

If SFFT or Amigamerlin would simulate pixelshader and bumpmap caps (only caps) game compatibility would be even better. And maybe an option where the driver simulates that your voodoo is a Geforce2 or 3/4 would enhance compatibility an make for example "Far Cry" playable.

So, personally I think that game detail settings aren't the reason if the game runs or not. For example: I also tried several settings with BOILING POINT and i managed the game to start, but just before the main screen appears the game crashes with:

3D-Analyze v2.3 - http://www.tommti-systems.com, HARDWARE - device does not support 8 vertex streams.

Take any HEX-editor, go to GTA_sa.set (In my documents\GTA San Andreas User Files), search 21(hex) up to last entry and replace it to 01 (640x480x16) or 02 (640x480x32) or 0B (800x600x16).
Byte before mod byte must be 00 for 16bit mode, 01 for 32bit. (?)
In 640x480 modes Advanced Settings works.

Enjoy the GTA:SA!

ps. if you use gta_sa.set from other videocard, you must run GTA:SA at least one time before mod.

You know the exact Hex Address?

r21vo

it's last entry of 21(hex) in the file.

The last entry of "21" ist @ 9DC. And it does not work, if I change the value.

I notice the so-called "anti-hot-coffee" 1.01 patch also fixes some issues with crashes in the advanced graphics options.  Anyone care to see if it makes the above problems go away?  (I'd check myself, but I've got the GF3 in at the moment)

roflkopp

It looks like the Patch 1.01 fixes the crashes, but only allows 640x480 16/32bit Videomodes on 32MB cards. Maybe I'll give it a try...
