Ok. we all know taht 3dfx is gone for about 4years.after these years milions of people remember that there was a 3d acceleratior called voodoo.a generation of gamers was born whit this card.but if 3dfx would rise again.i think 80-90% of these fans would buy 3dfx technology products if nvidia could lend them.i should send an e-mail to nvidia about the situation with 3dfx and what technologies they used for fx series or later.has anyone tried it yet?and where has gone the developer of 3dfx?i think we are the last generation of 3dfx fans because my or your kids would not know what is 3dfx.they would know what is ati or nvidia if one of them is gone or they connect as one.ok i'm one of the youngest fans about 3dfx i'm only 15een.i think that nvidia didn't used well their throphy.but wee did.

@esters,

I also wish that 3dfx had not packed it in and given up so quickly, but thats the way things go sometimes in the world of big business (dog eat dog).

I had contacted (by e-mail) Nvidia half a dozen times or so after the 3dfx acquisition and they never responded once to me because they just dont care[}:)]

What would make something 3dfx anymore ?, Technology - too old to be relevant, Management personell - they made the bad decisions that sunk 3dfx.

Resurection of 3dfx = snowballs chance of surviving in hell

Sorry, but I dont believe it will ever ever happen.

Isn't it true that the name "3dfx" can not be used for a new development in 3D acceleration ?

NitroX infinity

nVidia owns the name. So no.

Only way 3dfx would rise again if like you said, Nvidia lends a hand in making the graphic boards.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 gb ddr
Western Digital 80 gig
ATI Radeon x800

Voodoo5

I would be willing to bet the farm that Nvidia would never sell the brand name (3dfx) to anyone.

If they (Nvidia) did try (highly, highly unlikely) to revive the name, I personaly would not be interested in the least as it would still be a Nvidia product.

After the acquisition of 3dfx by Nvidia and Nvidia's decision to not support 3dfx cards (with driver updates) or pursue the almost finished Rampage technology, I vowed to never ever buy an Nvidia product ;)

ok v5 thanks that you're one of the people who tried to reach nvidia about 3dfx.yes i think thad 3dfx will not rise again because it's too late anyway.but look at S3 graphics wtf? the new s3 18 gamma is that a joke?.ok but i think that in the past before nvidia bought 3dfx.there was a serious deal.maybe that's whay the developer of 3dfx is now gone and unreachable, maybe that's the reason. But we are the ones that make to nvidia money.nvidia that's some greedy company.

Speak for yourself. I vowed never to buy an nVidia product after the demise of 3dfx. I know several other people feel the same way. :D

'Several others' is right, the other several billion have moved on or were never interested anyway.

Why on earth do people still blame Nvidia for the demise of 3dfx?  This is big business.  And these are big corporations.  They don't reply to any of your emails because they get thousands of similar ones, from people with far too much time on their hands, every day.  Write to your government about important issues!  Don't write to graphics card companies!  3dfx brought about their own demise, like it or not.  The company was a shambolic mess, and if anyone is to blame it's these unreachable people that were formerly at the head of the 3dfx corporation, slowing the companies growth and investing in dead end stop gap projects, such as Banshee, Avenger and Napalm.  These same people are now doing very well for themselves out of the sell off of 3dfx.  Before blaming Nvidia, people should read up on 3dfx's aquisition of STB Systems and the development history of Rampage which was constantly put on the back burner.  3dfx bought STB while it was in serious financial trouble.  Fact.

Misplaced loyalty to a dead corporation is as wasteful and futile as boycotting the Nvidia brand.  The product is indeed what matters not the brand.  Many of the consumer goods you buy today are manufactured by far worse companies than Nvidia.  Everything you use, eat and wear is likely to have been produced by cut throat corporations with little regard for anything including people like you, and they're all pretty much the same, from the company that makes your sports shoes to the one that sells you fast food.  They see you as a source of income only, and even a 'human resource' especially if you live in the 2nd or 3rd world cheap labour pool.
