I have problem with Sacred (and Sacred Plus), installed on Windows 98 machine with Voodoo 5 5500 AGP with Raziel 64 driver.
Does anybody know if Sacred work with V5 (and other 3dfx cards)? I know it requires DX9 videocard, but many other games works with 3dfx cards. BTW, I tried to look in Google and other search engines and I found many hints about other games and V5, but I was unable to find anything about Sacred and Voodoo cards... Strange...
The game starts, work good for a few minutes and then just exit to the desktop (without an error).
With x3dfx driver (1.07 I think) the game works in simular way - for a limited time, sometimes for 30 minutes, sometimes for 2-3 min., or it crashes at load, but if I try to zoom in/out - it crashes very often (sometimes immediately, sometimes not at all). This time I receive an error - General exception.

So, is it possible to play Sacred with Voodoo 5? Any hints?

I forgot to mention what is the system:

Motherboard: ECS K7S5A
CPU: Athlon XP 1800+ (Thoro-B)

OS: Win 98 SE

I have played sacred demo without ANY problems using the latest original 3dfx drivers version 1.04.01b,all 3rdparty drivers I tried had problems (graphics,etc)..hint: use the lowest settings possible, make sure you dont use anti aliasing, try using compatibility mode (in the launcher),run without sound etc..

SEG_Striker

Well, I already set the game with lowest settings, without ansi aliasing...
So, I have to use the oridinal 3dfx drivers?

I played the game some time ago with the amigamerlin 3.0 drivers. the only problem was that there were some graphical errors with persons that had worn white robes. Anything else worked perfect for me...

SEG_Striker

Ok, but 3.0 works with XP only. What about Windows 98/Me?
Perhaps I have to try with amigamerlin 2.5?

SEG_Striker

I tried the last original 3dfx, the last original 3dfx beta DX8 driver, as well the latest x3dfx driver, without any success...
The game just runs fine, without any problems, or glitches, but after some time it just exits to the Desktop... As before...

I tried with Windows 98, Windows ME, different Voodoo 4/5 boards, different CPU's and motherboards, but it simply refuses to work :(
When I replaced the video with Geforce 2 MX, Geforce FX 5700 and some other - it works. In the creator's site I read Sacred work only with DX9 hardware compatible videocards, which is not true, because Geforce MX it DX7 compatible. Why it don't work for me with Voodoo 4/5? And some people like "ps47" said it works? Strange...

Does anyone play Sacred with Voodoo 3, 4/5 now?

ps47

I was not able to get it working on a voodoo3,but as I said,voodoo5 worked fine.but I know that some people have unusual problems with some games.every pc is unique you know..seems like you have a lot of hardware available,I would try different mobo etc..

emminenz

just try to install win2k and use the amigamerlin 3.0 drivers.

I tried running Sacred on W2K, and I got a dropout to the desktop when starting a new game on a V5. I reduced the graphic detail level from high to medium and it started ok. You might try playing around with the graphic options.

he can launch the game fine, his problem are random exits to desktop.there may be some hardware conflicts,I'm not sure, probably the only way how to find out is testing the card in some other pc.I have completed sacred demo without a single glitch on my athlon1400/voodoo5/win98se/last original 3dfx driver..

SEG_Striker

What version of Sacred do you have? I tried the original (1.0), 1.2 + Win98 fixed exe - from gamecopyword.com, but none works (still) - I tried several combination of motherboards, voodoo 4/5, CPU's, OS (98, Me), drivers - so long nothing works. If I change the video - everything is fine...
