i have an older system (ali5 chipset, k6-III 450), but it
has only agp 1x and 2x .

i want to buy a used voodoo 5 5500 at ebay, now i have this question :

does it run on agp 2x ?
or does it need agp 4x ?


someone said he read something about agp 4x, he only didnt remember if this was 2x/4x ord 4x only.

so, would a voodoo 5 5500 (65mb, agp) run on my agp 1x/2x slot ?

A Voodoo 5 5500 Agp doesn't support Agp 4x (1.5 v), the Card needs Agp 1x or 2x (3.3 v).
In theory, the Card will run but the K6/3 will be slow for the Card. (but you will have the fsaa)
I have a K6/3 450 and it runs with a Matrox G200 + 2 Voodoo2 in Sli.
An Athlon XP would be better.

Your K6 won't provide nearly enough geometry for your Voodoo5, however you'll be able to run everything at 1024x768 4xFSAA with no performance hit... except for the laggy mouse. Try 1024x768x32 2xFSAA

I thought running 4X FSAA with AMD K6-III 450 would incur performance hit?

Fsaa 4x slows down the performance.

can you explain to me what is FSAA

i have this pc here with the K6-III 450.
if a voodoo 5 55000 will run, i guess i will try it.

what settings and what procedures do i have to do so that it runs at the optimal speed and quality (usually to me quality is more important).
as long as the game is at least fluently, it is ok.

thx for your hints, i will now try and get a v5 5500.
( i thin it is better than to get a slower one, i could later use the v5 5500 with a better cou as well.)

i have another pc, a p4-640 3,2ghz , this one has a ati radeon x700xl grafic card.
but this is not agp, but pci-express slot. i use this for newer games like morrowind,
sims2 etc.pp.

in my old pc (ok: very old pc) i did put out the p1-233mmx and put in a k6-III 450.
runs well and f.e. screamer 2 tells me i am runnning a pentium 614 mhz :-)
this pc is more for my favoutite glide games like (quake1,2, descent2,carmageddon (all),screamer (all) and many many others).

in cannot use my voodoo 2 in this system because it has a STUPID layout. the cpu is just behind the pci slots, so no card longer than 18 cm would fit into any pci slot.
the voodoo2 is over ~24 cm, it doesnt fit in.

in the moment i use a ati rage 128 agp card with 32mb ram and an addon voodoo1 card
(miro hiscore 3d with 6mb).  but the agp slot is free in space, its beside the cpu, so there does fit in a longer card.
so i thought a voodoo 5 5500 woiuld be a good idea.

can you please give me instriuctions what exactly to do to get the optimal out of it in this K6-III 450 system (chipset is aladdin V), the sytsem has agp/usb/udma66.
please give me a step-by-step dummy instruction ....
