i am building a new pc and i like to have 2 12mb voodoo 2 in sli but the geforce 295 (the new video cad I'm getting)  only has dvi can i uses a dvi to vga converter like this http://www.thebidfloor.com/images/video_cards/DVI_VGA_ADAPTER.jpg

and sense the  geforce 295 has 2 dvi ports and Multiple Monitor Support I'll like to set up the voodoo2 as a secondary display or on a separate Monitor

I think you can do that on VGA enabled monitors without problems; GeForce and modern DVI cards have DVI-I port, so they can send digital and analogue signals too.

However, if you are planning to use DVI/VGA monitor (both digital and analogue) or two separate monitors (for example, DVI LCD for GeForce card, and VGA monitor for V2 SLI setup) you can connect both DVI and VGA card outputs directly to DVI and VGA monitor's input respectively, without pass trough cable or adaptors.

i did not know that the voodoo2 can be ran with out the pass though cable  what's it like is it the same as with it and what about the 2d in games.

i wonted to have the  geforce first dvi port for it and the second for the pass though cable and have a dvi/vga Monitor or a second Monitor for the voodoo2.i never rely used a voodoo2 before  so i don't know a hole lot about it.

Yes. Voodoo and Voodoo2 are just 3D graphics accelerators. They work only in 3D; usually you need pass trough cable in order to connect main Video Graphics Adaptor (2D/3D or 2D only, it depends by Video Card) and 3D graphic accelerator to the same monitor. This way, when 2D scene from main card is displayed, Voodoo card not operates, but lets pass signals over the cable to monitor input. Otherwise, when at work, 3Dfx accelerator generates 3D scene and send signal to monitor direclty, over secondary VGA output instead. For these reasons, if you are going to use two monitors, you can link GeForce and Voodoo cards alone, with one monitor each...or you can link them to their own DVI and VGA inputs, if your monitor allow that.
