Overclocking CPU...

Hi!

I've overclocked my CPU by changing FSB speed from 66.8MHz to 75MHz.
(see specs below)

My CPU has a multiplier of 6.5

My computer is in the basement(temp. around +18 deg. cel.), its case is opened 24/7. There is no additional cooling. Do you think that raising the FSB freq. to 83MHz will make it overheat, and how will this affect my Voodoo2 Video Card? (FSB affects AGP, PCI too...)

I would suggest you raise your FSB a little at a time and that will let you get to the limit of your CPU OC without overheating. If your motherboard doesn't have PCI frequency locking you are going to have a problem with your Voodoo2 cards. Again, increase the FSB a little at a time and you will also find the limit of your Voodoo2 cards if you can't lock the PCI frequency.

If the PCI bus is linked to the FSB (eg: FSB/2), you may have problems with the idebus, also (the HDD). However, Linux takes the idebus as a boot parameter (that is, Slackware does, at least). You could get away easier if you can set the PCI bus to default, while still increasing the FSB.

Archangel's advice is very sound, if you slowly OC and then try games on the Voodoo 2s, this will tell you if the V2s are being affected by the OC. Some motherboards do lock the PCI BUS frequency, but it's usually pretty tricky to find out.

Ok, thanx.
I've stayed @ 487 MHz for a few days now until scandisk started finding "bad chunks" of files on my HDD.
For now, I clocked it back to 66 MHz.

I've read other people's reports, Intel Celeron 433 should work with no problems at around 550 MHz, I'm not trying to go that high, trying to stay at 487 MHz for now.

Is this caused by overclocking the FSB? How can I fix this?
Will raising the core voltage to 2.0 V help?

Try to raise the voltage a little. don't go any higher than 2.3 volt for your cpu. It can probably take around 2.5 volt, but i would not recommend it.

If you can set a pci divider (2x standard for a 66 mhz cpu), set it to 3x. Then overclock to 83 mhz fsb. This would leave the fsb around 28 mhz, which is a little low but probably better then the 41.5 mhz you've set on it with a 2x divider. Your ide interface cant handle 41.5, not any standard onboard ide interface can.

Watch your cooling. Your cpu wont run 100 mhz fsb, this is way to high so don't even try. Goodluck!

what motherboard do you have?  also, is this a slot 1 processor?  this celeron should be very overclockable.  what was stopping the cpu's back in the day from overclocking was usually the CACHE ram on the cpu couldn't take it.  if you can keep your PCI bus at 33Mhz, you should be better off and just raise the multiplier.

As well as losing performance the more you overclock it.

Happened to me. My old Athlon 2700 was overclocked like a bitch!Started getting slower, then slower.Blew out a couple days building my new PC.

i am currently running a Celeron2 633-66mhz to 714~ with a 75mhz bus..

everything works perfectly.. its a very noticeable boost..

just keep the UltraDMA feature Disabled on the BIOS.. and there wont be more HD errors..
