I've got a Voodoo 5 5500 Rev 1900 which can reach the amazing speed of 175MHz [}:)] A friend of mine has a Voodoo 5 5500 Rev 2900 which has reached an amazing speed of 184MHz. And I've got another friend who also has a V5 5500 with a higher Rev number which can get to higher speeds than mine.

The conclusion is that the higher the rev number, the higher you can overclock them. The question of this topic is; what's the highest rev number findable on a Voodoo 5 5500?

There are different revisions of the V5 5500? I was not aware of such a thing, except maybe in engineering samples or v5 6ks (which are actually also engineering samples). Where are you getting these revision numbers from?  Also, overclocking your V5 (or any VSA-100, for that matter) has little to do with the board itself and more to do with the RAM on the board, since RAM is often the factor that limits, the VSA-100 is rated spec at 183, I believe, so overclocking the GPU(s) is not the issue. I believe that Samsung ram is supposedly the best for OCing.

I've got toshiba memory :P

From the left VSA chip go down and left and you should see "Rev A" in the darker PCB area.

Above the 3dfx logo to the left of the white triangle you can see the number "2100" ingraved on the board (in the light green rectangular area in the darker area).

So this board would be a Rev A 2100. (This is not mine btw! I got it from the internet)

I'm running the Rev A, 2100, however I've got the samsung memoey on my card, Currently running @ 183mhz with just a couple of fans on the back on the card.  [8D]
Don't really think I'll achieve too much more if I were to add ramsinks and change the fans on the gpu's.  [:0]

Well I have three Voodoo5 5500's in my collection

1. 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev 2500 A

2. DOA 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev 2500 A

3. 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB Rev 2900 A1

So its known that the PCI'model came a little later than the AGP models.

I suppose that the Rev 2500 A is the most mass built one out there, but, Phalanx, wasn't your 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB a Rev 1900 A?  That's pretty early model though.

Anyways I still think that the Rev 3300 A1 and A2 the newest model of the 5500 is.

this card I mean is the Rev 3300 A1 :

and this is the newest 5500 AGP around the Rev 3300 A2:

I have 3300-A1 [8D] and 1900, which has the Toshiba rams, and is also not so often produced. The V5 with  Rev 2300 should have Hyundai rams..

I have la v5k rev. 2100,And actually my v5k is running to(166@195mhz and fsb 100@145). And It runs very well...

Thanks

Because of it's Toshiba memory ram's, i don't know. But the rarest ram brand is MT, very few Voodoo5  cards has memory rams from this manufacturer.

*edit*

Your Rev 1900 has Toshiba memory chips, hasn't it ?

My V5 5500 AGP is Rev A 2100 with Hyundai RAM.

My V5 5500 PCI is Rev A1 2900 with Toshiba RAM.

I haven't tried overclocking either of them.

How can I tell the RAM speed? I've heard that there were some cards with 5.5 or 5 ns RAM, is this true?

BTW, I've never seen a V5 5500 AGP with DVI before... I didn't even know they existed. Most interesting.
