For me it's more about bringing those classics back to life with better hardware.

All I had back in 3dfx's heyday was a 233MMX.
I never got to see the full potential of these cards.

Now we all have that luxury with faster CPU's and RAM ... etc. ;)

Sweet!

I also had recent trouble with Glide and D3D on some titles like Newman Haas Racing and IGI2.

The only way I could get both to run without freezing under Amigamerlin 3.0 was to reduce the anti-aliasing to Single Chip Only.

Tweeked it a bit and managed to get further with IGI2 on anti-aliasing 2x but then 10 minutes into play .... freeze. [B)]

Here's the error I'm getting.

Hey Rainbow!

Could you give us a rundown of what is modified with the 3dfx flash 2.17 mod in English? Do we need this flash tool specifically for your BIOS's?

Special Voodoo 4/5 bioses look self explanatory with the screenshots.
I like the VGA Bios Setup v1.1, choice! ;)
I'll be giving that a spin!

I'm also getting a 403 Forbidden error on your link to the tdfx bios editor v1.62.

Someone was asking about the size of the logo image as well. Can we get images larger than 64x48?

Cheers!

You may as well chuck up Newman Haas Racing by Studio 33 Psygnosis Ltd. 1998.

It's got Native 3dfx Support straight out the box! ;)

Works great using Amigamerlin 3.0 for Voodoo5 5500.
Arghh.. Newman Hass never looked better with 4 sample Anti-Aliasing.

Gamespot gave it a 5.5 out of 10, I'm an indycar fan so I rate it much higher, especially when there is not much to choose from. They must of done their review on a crapy D3D card and didn't check out the native glide.

http://au.gamespot.com/pc/driving/newmanhaasracing/review.html

I did mod out Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 3 for a complete indycar conversion if anyone is interested! Probably still got the Mod somewhere. :D

Still, Newman Hass is fast paced and gives you that racing rush.

"There is no such thing as a stupid question!" -- Some GURU

QuoteProbably a stupid question, but with this BIOS, the normal VGA port is still the primary display, correct? I've finally found a use for my Voodoo 5 MAC (which I bought ages ago to put in a real mac that has since been moved back to parts.
Are you kidding amp_man?! You've got an old voodooMAC just lying around doing nothing?
Still unexorcised?!

OK ok ok ok ....These are completely normal BIOS's for just your card!
Normal being for use in a PC with the bonus of DVI enabled if you so choose.

PLEASE NOTE: I don't know If you can flash your VoodooMAC back to Macintosh format.

Depending upon what port you are using VGA or DVI, that will be your primary display. One or the other only. If your using the card as a secondary adapter those screenshots above is what you'll see on the output screen, until you tell your OS to extend your desktop space or something.

Most of what I've done here is Aesthetics! I just wanted my BIOS to Report exactly what it did. I've actually gone for the dark green 3dfx logo for my US V5MAC and Yellow for my Euro V5MAC. Some sort of color coding i guess. :)

As far as the size of the logo, you'd have to talk to tdfx about that.
His great BIOS editor only accepts 64x48 images at the moment.
I did see quite a bit of room in the BIOS dump, but how much can you fit in to 64.0 KB (65,536 bytes)!?

How awesome is EF2000?

I remembering going to an Air Show and the graphics of the demonstration of the EF2000 where exactly the same as the Voodoo1!

DID rocks!

I second that - I got an LX and it's even got a fan on the TMU!

Not passe at all Uwe - otherwise there wouldn't be a term "Retro-Gamer"

Looks like I've got the same setup as you, flashed VoodooMAC and 98SE.

I tried Raziel64's Evolution Drivers Version 1.00.09 but couldn't install the 3dfx tools for some reason.

So I went back to Amigamerlin 2.9 keeping all of the newer files from the Evolution Drivers.

Here's what worked in terms of Glide with factory defaults in 3dfx tools.

Need for Speed II SE (NFS2SEA.EXE)
Quake (GLQUAKE.EXE)
Quake3Arena Motion Blur Demo(aafxt1.bat)

Need for Speed III worked but only under a Direct3D device which said wasn't supported but worked none the less. No Glide!

BTW Quake3Arena Motion Blur Demo hangs on the second arena for some weird reason, works fine with the supported Voodoo 2's though.

If your worried about your BIOS try mine, it's in my signature below.

Final product I guess!

I managed to figure out the colors.
Turns out Red actually looks more like Orange.

Yeah.... looking at it now I think your right Obi-Wan. A little extra information too! ;)

Just as a side note: I used a red 3dfx logo and it came out blue.
But I think I may have it under control.

Here's your choice of colors (4-bit color  = 16 colors)

No problem Radu!

Just send me your BIOS. You can grab that file above for the DUMPBIOS.EXE if you don't have it already.

Or just let me know what version you would like and if it's AGP or PCI.

I can change the color of the 3dfx logo if you like.
I'm working from the offical logo in Photoshop (3dfx.eps).

For those with Photoshop.

I can also make it display the last two lines.
I Just thought it looked better without them.

To give you an idea of how it looks. Ignore the last line, that's easily fixed.

I decided to modify my VoodooMAC BIOS enabling DVI out for PC.

There are two different versions here.

Here's how they look.

With the 3dfx logo.

I'm thinking of doing an outrageous cooling mod next.

These bent into shape.

Here are some shots of my Voodoo MAC Cooling Mod.
I couldn't get hold of the Vantec Iceberq Copper.
So I went with the Evercool Twinkling VGA Cooler.

All Copper Cooling Solution with priority on Cooling rather than quietness.
You can put less voltage through these fans to get the best of both worlds.

The Evercool Twinkling VGA Cooler was a tight fit. Especially the right VSA-100.
I had to loosen the fan when fitting to rearange the seating, because the caps would of had too much pressure on them.

BTW: I Cured my friends flaky 9800pro with one of these coolers. Cleared up all artifacts. Stable as.
I was so impressed I chucked one on my own 9800pro.
Benchmarked it before and after with much better 3DMark scores than stock cooling.

I think the VSA-100 will be Child's Play for these Coolers. ;)
