I use minigl as it gives me very good quality and performance; it's the best if you want to use fsaa (no mouse lag and less blurred fonts)
I replaced the one from half-life with the latest one (1.49), in Half-Life\gldrv
http://falconfly.de/minigl.htm

default ICD is good to, it's the one to use with CS 1.6 (minigl doesn't work with it)

I play either in 800x600 with fsaa 4x (LOD -1.5, no mipmap dithering), or 1152x864 no fsaa (LOD -0.25, mipmap dithering)

Voodoo4/5 Discussions / BIOS upgrade ?

I upgraded from 1.06 to 1.18 and saw absolutely no difference :D

You mean you fixed the f***ed up SLI in glide/openGL?
That was holding me back from using your driver :)

General Discussions / FSAA for 2D

You can always hunt for the "font anti-aliasing" option. But if you want FSAA on your desktop you gonna have to use a 3D shell (as in Jurassic Park :D)

General Discussions / Gamma Correction...
10 June 2004, 00:58:00
I had some bugs with gamma too : games way too dark with gamma settings having no effect, gamma slide greyed in quake3..
I suggest you to reinstall your drivers or to install another version (I guess the VIA option isn't available with your version, try v 1.40.01b, amigamerlin 2.9 or Evolution 0.9)

I've tried many versions (now v2.34) and it has actually never worked for me! though I could play some games a year ago in wireframe mode (vice city, quake..). That's the only thing I could ever do with 3dAnalyze :D

Everytime I wanted to play a game with hardware TnL emulation 3dAnalyze just crashed, without launching the game (for example : battlefield 1942, nfs underground, Painkiller). It crashes even without selecting any option too.

I'm under windows 98 SE (french version, don't know if that matters), I had Amigamerlin 2.9, then 3dfx latest beta drivers, and now raziel64's Evolution Driver
err I should mention I have a voodoo5 [:o)]

I'm not bitching but this piece of software just does not work. Am I the only one in this situation?

It's great to see the halo demo running without even using 3dAnalyze.. buts it always freezes my PC after a few seconds of playing !?! (my PC is a bit unstable due to a bad PSU and summer coming though)

General Discussions / HSR
15 May 2004, 12:05:24
it works with the quake series. you have to set r_finish 1 or gl_finish 1 or else it will go ugly and buggy
I think i had let me gain about 2 fps with FSAA 4x
anyway the feature is not that interesting, quake engines do themselves some HSR thanks to their BSP geometry

nan je vois rien d'autre comme truc temporel avec le T-buffer :D

no I don't see any other Temporal thing with the T-buffer :D

anyway asking for features is maybe easier than implementing them [:o)]

CS 1.6 doesn't support now the 3dfx minigl since this version 1.6, this is the problem.
If you want to run in OpenGl, try to put a 3dfx opengl Icd in the steam directory and rename it opengl32.dll.

WickedGL works too
you have to put the opengl32.dll in
D:\steam\SteamApps\xxxx@yyyy\counter-strike
(example)

now, what about some "temporal motion blur"
I think the idea is not new but it could look cool in some games.
Would it be easy to implement?

Thanks for the technical discussion :)

I'm glad to see the feature will soon be available
(cf amigamerlin's italian topic)

ATI has unleashed a feature called Temporal AA (though accessible only with the windoze registry at the time)

MSAA sample positions are modified each other frame.
people report that it looks great (like twice the number of sample, but with no additional framerate loss!). I can't try it since I have no ATI DX9 card

only little annoying thing is that v-sync is required

It seems to me that the Almighty T-Buffer would be perfectly able to do that (afterall, it can even do more than mere AA [8D])

I would be charmed if some God of the Glide hanging there could work on this !! [:I]

Yet....sound cards such as the SBLive! show that even the PCI bus is capable of allocating System RAM as if it was an actual dedicated pool of RAM on the card, so in theory it should still be possible to pull off some AGP-style texture storage even with a PCI card....

I think that's the 3dfx drivers do
It's visible when playing UT2003/2004 with too high texture settings, or a map particularly rich in textures.
texture swapping comes in and the framerate drops in the 2fps range

even the voodoo1 seems to support it (when playing quake3 on mesaFX)

you can always stay with Win ME if you wish.
I had no problem networking four PC, running win 98SE (two PC), win XP and MSDOS 6.22/Windows 3.11 [^]
