Title: Voodoo3 3000 Graphical issues
Post by: Glackenburgen on 30 December 2013, 07:27:05
I can't really find too much information to fix this so I thought maybe someone here could help.

I have a Voodoo3 3000 AGP card that is having problems with every glide game I try.

Issues include:

-Garbled text
-Textures off center
-Lighting/Shadows broken

Here's a short Video I made to show more of the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't for the life of me figure this out [:I]

Hi Glackenburgen,

you're welcome here.

First of all, please specify which OS and video driver for your 3dfx Voodoo3 you are using.

We can try to configure the video card with the best driver for the couple (OS, Voodoo3) and then we can see if this one is a hardware related issue.

Let me know.

Bye bye

Please remove current 3dfx driver and install Amigamerlin 2.9 driver. You can get this one from 3dfxzone.it at this URL: https://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/voodoo3/drivers/windows9x/

Then please try to run the official 3dfx technology demo named Donut. You can get this one from 3dfxzone.it at this URL: https://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/techdemos/index.php

If the issue persists, your 3dfx video card could be damaged, so you should consider to buy a new Voodoo3.

Let me know.

Bye bye

I have installed the correct drivers. And ran the tech demo.

Looking at the demo, it seems to run fine.

But back to the game the text is still unreadable. And shadows are still misplaced. I reinstalled the game just to make sure. Same results. Although it seems to run a lot smoother now.

Perhaps my card is no longer in working order? [:(]

If the tech demo works correctly, the card could be ok.

So, a thing isn't clear for me: does this problem come out with one game only?

Bye bye

Hi Glackenburgen,

many tnx for the video :).

These graphical errors could be caused by a too high frequency of the gpu or ram chips. So I ask you: is your Voodoo3 overclocked?

Besides please verify also if the AGP bus of your motherboard is running at standard frequency.

Let me know.

I don't think it is overclocked (As I don't really have the knowledge to do that in the first place)

And I wouldn't be sure how to tell if the AGP slot would be running at the incorrect frequency.

I would think it may be a RAM issue because looking back now I remember that I carelessly inserted 3 (Possibly very different) RAM cards into the 3 RAM slots. I apologize for my lack of knowledge on that as-well.

Hi Glackenburgen,

you can know the Voodoo3's current frequency clock using the free V.Control utility (http://www.3dfxzone.it/koolsmoky/vctrl.html). Please note the reference value is equal to 183MHz.

About the system RAM, you could try the games with a single DIMM at a time. In so way you can

I'm here.

Well I tried one DIMM at a time and still same results.

Using the v control tool I changed the overclock to 183, 166, and 143MHz and it also did nothing.

Any suggestions?
