Title: 3Dfx Voodoo 2 on Windows XP 64Bit Edition
Post by: Nemesis887 on 26 December 2004, 07:07:19
Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to create drivers for the Voodoo 2 graphics board to work inside a 64Bit OS, (Like Windows 2003 and Windows XP 64), or if there was a known workaround to get the 32bit drivers for the voodoo 2 to work inside windows xp x64.
As far as my own experience with Windows Xp 64bit edition, I can disable the 64bit driver only protection, and it will let the drivers somewhat install, but it disables the hardware because it says that "It is not intended for this platform." Was wondering if anyone knows anything that might help, Thanx.

Are you speaking about a support for D3D under these 2 OS's ?

Not Really. I installed Windows XP Pro x64 Edition on my computer that has a AMD 64 Processor. I installed a version of Windows XP that has extended support for the 64bit processors. After installing I noticed that Windows XP didn't auto-detect my Voodoo 2 card. It was detected as a Multimedia Video Device. Every time I try to install the FastVoodoo Drivers for the Voodoo 2, it kept saying that the drivers I was trying to use are not intended for this platform, and to make sure they are 64bit compliant. I can try to force the 32bit drivers to install, but by default windows xp x64 will then disable the hardware, making it useless. I am not only trying to get D3D Working, I am trying to see if there are drivers for this version of windows that even exist, and if they can ever be built.(One that will support the Voodoo 2 hardware itself, with any API's) I can imagine that in the near future, this might present a problem for people who get new computers with x64 processors and 64bit OS'S, and want to use thier 3Dfx Cards, this will not be possible because these drivers don't exist...yet. Anyways, I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about this, or anything that might help. Thanx.

With PCI Express the death of the V2 will eventually come anyway. Sad but true.

You should probably set up a dual boot and run your Voodoo2 under Win98se. The games that run on a Voodoo2 probably won't like WinXP 64bit anyway.

the day that PCI becomes extinct won't happen in the near future i think as there are not many PCI-e replacement in the market, and even the most advanced mainboards have PCI slot anyway, so maybe the possibilities of V2SLI still waiting for us~~

maybe a GeForce 6800 SLI and Voodoo2 SLI will runs together in this board: will it gives us much fun? i think so
