If adapter uses chip PLX 8112 bridge it is 66MHz compatible.

this is the PLX chip used:

Thanks oschkar and sfft for your help.
I the past I edited the pci register with Wpcredit and chipset files descriptors, but is it the good way for new chipsets ?
Maybe there is a new tool for example to set the bit 5 of the 'status register' of my Voodoo to 1 ?
Do you think it will help ?
Edit : maybe something like wpcrset will be necessary to set the pci configuration space of voodoo and pci bridge at the same time early in the init ...

@jix-reggio:
Please run 3dMark2001 using the default resolution and color depht.( 32 bits ).

I notice that all your benchmarks were done using 16 bit color depht.

:)

@voodoo5k6: your tests with the adapter are using 32 bit color depht.
Please post a result using 16 bit color depth, to can make a clean comparasion !

Thanks guys !

Hi at all,

I did some test.

Using pcie2pci adapter the card works to 33MHz. Same score that using the card in a PCI slot 33MHz. Even, PCIe2PCI+AGP2PCI+v5-5500AGP adapter I got same score than using V5-5500 pci in a pci slot.

Chip  bridge used in the adapter is 66MHz compatible. So, the question is if adapter needs to be modified like agp2pci adapter (but I have check pinout and there is not info about MHz speed) or pcie2pci adapter needs to be plugged in a real pci-e 1x. My motherboard only has 16x.

Another problem can be about IRQ and some components use same IRQ and when an IRQ is shared for others HW then speed down.

no, jix-reggio uses the pci-e 1x slot and get the same results.
there is no influence if the adapter is used in pci-e 1x or 16x slot.

What i remark, and is odd:

you get around 2800 points using 32bit color depht.
User jix-reggio get around 3700 points using 16bit color depht.
User voodoo5k6 get around 3700 points using 32bit color depht.

if it is like that, the User voodoo5k6 ( or trevormacro ) could achieve easly 6000 points when running the benchmark on 16 bit !

I got (always using 32Bits).

V5-5500 pci on PCI-x = 3700Points
V5-5500 pci on pci slot 33Mhz = 3100Points
V5-5500 pci using pcie2pci adapter = 3100Points

Ok, mine pci2pci-e arrive today !

I get with my phenom 9850 around 2700 points, the same results as with the PCI slot. ( 32 bits )

I test the adapter in PCI-e 1x.

If i switch to 16 bit, i get also around 3400 points, with default settings, no overclock.

Increasing of the PCI-e Clock from 100 to 125 get me an aditional of 150 points, results in a score of 2850. ( 32 bit ).

Ok, some said that the Pci-E bridge does not increase their score @stock.
So please can you post the detailled 3DM2001 se scores and compare
the triangles and point sprite scores between V5500 PCI and V5500 PCI2PCI-E.
As I explain I got better performances on these items with PCI2PCI-E on 3DM2001 se.

Voodoo5  - 66MHz Operation - Supported
PEX 8112 - 66MHz Operation - Not Supported

My results:

32bit

16bit

Looks that there are other models too on the market:

If I remember right once  I plugged the agp2pci adapter Aida showed 66MHz not supported as well.

Maybe Koolsmokey can help us here.

I believe that a bit of the PCI status register must be set to 1 to show that the bridge is 66MHz capable to the system.
( a similar mod like the one for the agp2pci adapter )

Maybe it is possbile to set this bit via software, as jix-reggio stated.

Can you discuss this issue with Koolsmokey ?

i come accros to this utillity ( equivalent on windows for command lspci from linux ) :
SIV - sistem information viewer
can be founded here: http://rh-software.com/

look on the information regarding the bridge ! Supports 66MHz !

I read the old posts, where Koolsmokey advice to mask the Pin 49 on the AGP2PCI adapter.

I put both Photos together, AGP2PCI and PCI2PCIE.

Also i measure if the pin 49 on the PCI2PCIE adapter is connected to the ground.
The answer is yes, Pin 49 is connected to the Ground.

The Pin 49 ( M66EN ) on the voodoo5 is also connected to the ground.
I understand that if Pin49 is connected to the ground, then the card will operate @33Mhz.

If M66EN is high, then the system may run the bus at up to 66Mhz.
If M66EN is low, then the system may only run the bus up to 33Mhz.

Question: if we isolate the pin 49, ( and connect it to a pullup resitor to Vcc ) would the adapter work @66MHz ?

Nice info Radu!

Question- So, why not to ISOLATE the PIN49 (M66EN) directly in the V5-5500 PCI.

Oscar.
