Title: Wicked3d
Post by: YMB on 07 August 2003, 05:35:17
Hi, do any of you know how to get rid of the wicked 3d demo message when entering a game? It gets annoying pressing c all the time (especially when I am using HLSW). The message says to register at wicked3d.com but that site does not exist any more. I tried to delete the message in the dll file itself but that makes the file corrupt. Is there any way to register or is there a trick to avoid the message?

The shareware version will always show that message. Unfortulatly, WickedGL no longer allows you to register the product so unless you can find someone with a valid number, you are stuck with the message.

well, you arent supposed to use wickedgl with all gamez. i know that IL-2 sturmovik runs best in wickedgl, and there are other examples (i believe counterstrike runs fastest when using wickedgl...)

am i just beating a dead hourse here? with the voodoo5 5500 card i read alot of people
are still using it with great sucsess, am i wrong in thinking that it will work good enough to play the newer games? one guy says he's playing star wars jedi night academy

easy:
just copy the opengl32.dll from the folder you installed wickedgl to the game folder where the *.exe is.
this way you can try every ogl game with wickedgl.

but grazi is right, not every game profits from it...

I will try it again raffa i tried it before maybe i did something wrong, is that all i do? is there more to this? i couldnt open the game when i did that, it just flashed for a second then went black.
but thank you for your sugestion....

Don't use wicked3d for Jedi Academy, it's way too old... Use MesaFX instead, and place the opengl32.dll into the gamedata dir.....
That works "slicker than snot" ;)

err, the GF XT series are sh!t, they're like the MXs, except they've stolen the letters to insult ATI's amazing XT series. Don't get an nvidia XT, ATI rulez :D

best bang for the buck, solid performance but not too expensive, the Radeon 9600.  Not the Radeon 9600 SE or Lite, as they suck, but the Radeon 9600 is gold in my book.  And if you're flush with cash, Radeon 9800 XT or Pro.  But then I like ATI.

How about a FX 5200 256DDR with 400Mhz tv out dvi? :D
Title: Wicked3d
Post by: qrazi on 07 February 2004, 10:06:41
well, whats your budget?

btw: a geforce fx 5900 XT sells for 180 euro here, thats cheaper then most 9600 XT cards, while it will outperform a 9600xt, and clock a lot higher. dont tell me a 9600 pro is the best bang for the buck... only when making heavy use of FSAA and AF, the 9600xt is the better option.

the card im getting is a FX 5200 with 256DDR and 400mhz tv out and dvi, it's above the G force.

w00t! congratulations, you've just turned into an nVidiot! Why get a 5200? Cause it has 256mb of ram on it? Lemme tell you a little kept secret, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 128MB AND 256MB RAM (performance-wise)...if you're gonna be cheap, be cheap, but don't expect any performance out of that 5200...

what would u recomend for about $300 dallars?
the ramdac is 400mhz the difference in price wasent that much from the 128 to the 256....and im getting it from a freind who gets computer stuff at cost so it's really costing me about $100 it would be about 250 to 300 retail..i wish VooDoo was still in busness..[V]

Get a 9700pro, they're only $198 atm, which is dirt cheap, considering they retailed for $399 ~1 yr ago...

And if you fork out $50 more, you can get a card that actually runs dx9 intensive apps...might I also mention you'll be able to play games with AA and AF enabled with little to no performance hit...

From this page on (look at all the benchmarks), you make your decision:

Haven't read the entire thing, but from what I see, only overclocked does the 5700U manage to outperform a 9700Pro at stock speed.

GeForce FX 5700U Core:475  Memory:900 128-bit 4x1

Radeon 9700 Pro Core:325 Memory:620 256-bit 8x1

Let's get real here...the 5700U dies in shader performance...it has a 128-bit memory bus, and 4 pipes and 1 tmu per pipe, i.e. CASTRATED...for $50 more, come on...not to mention a 9700pro is a high end card compared to the 5700u which is mainstream; THEY DON'T COMPARE

Post by: Mavrick on 09 February 2004, 22:57:17
why did they discontinue the 9700pro? if it's so great of a card?[?]
Title: Wicked3d
Post by: amp_man on 09 February 2004, 23:56:09
I don't think they discontinued it, they just moved advertising to the 9800 and 9600. 9700 is almost as good as a 9800, 9700 pro vs. 9800 np would probably put the pro ahead. But if you don't believe that it's a good card, just look at the benchmarks!
Title: Wicked3d
Post by: lecram25 on 10 February 2004, 01:28:03
They discontinued it because it got old...it came out to compete with the Geforce 4 Ti 4600...and tehn when the nv30, aka Geforce FX 5800 Ultra came out, it killed that too...they discontinued it once they refreshed the R300 core and brouht out the R350...it's still a very good card...

well i orderd it! the ATI Radeon 9700Pro i hope it was a good choice over the G force 4 5700 ultra, i heard great reviews about it saying i wounldnt be disapointed. they say the frame rates were better too and i'll be able to run the highest resolutions compared to the Gforce4 5700 ultra.
what do u think?:D

I think that today I loaded up a bunch of my games playing my brother over the LAN, I run most games at 1280x960 with everything maxed, and I played for about an hour and then I thought to myself, damn, this game looks really good today.  Just that, not that it was running worse, not anything else but the fact that it looked great.  Then I realized that I still had 6x AA and 16X AF on from when I was showing my brother some tech demos.  Now we weren't playing anything brand new because his computer has my old Kyro II in it, just like Warcraft III, some Halo demo, and a little of the Chaser Demo, but I didn't notice any slow down.  That impressed me and I've had the card for a while now.
