The most stupid thing is: mb's manual says that this mb supports ONLY celeron cpu's. Can you believe that?

yes.... :) the intel i440ZX chipset was a dumbed down version of the famous i440BX chipset. it was marketed for use with intels budget cpu; the Celeron. ofcourse a normal p2 will run on the chipset as well... [8)]

just opening your case doesnt mean you have a good airflow... in fact my case runs hotter with an open case then with a closed one...
i do think that a new HSF will get you further... i guess you have a "boxed" HSF on it right now? can you read the temp?

Is there a P2 500 for socket 370?

No there are only Celeron's and P3's for Socket 370.
And there are VIA processors (Cyrix) but I don't think those will work, plus they're really crappy things.
The fastest Pentium 2 runs at 450Mhz.

IT WORKS!!! I bought huge Spire cooler. It's socket 370 cooler, but REALLY BIG. It's 6.5*83=540 Mhz now! Everything works much faster. 3DMark score was 3320 before, now it's 4200! Quake 3 timedemo was 46 fps, now it's 59.8. It's soooo great. I've done some more testing, and it never crashed. BUT! There WAS a problem. I have integrated sound card on my MB. PCI bus now works at 41 Mhz (33 normal) and that IS bad. The sound card refused to work (creative labs PCI64v). After a while, i've disabled it in bios and put my old ISA CMI8330a in empty slot. Now i have everything. I'm thrilled!
Thanks for advices and help!
