Title: Cooling Voodoo 5 5500 with Coolermaster PAC-P01-UX
Post by: Burn.E on 16 August 2005, 14:34:18
Hi there!

Last week I removed the original heatsink/fan combo, to replace it with 2 of these babies.

And a set of these: http://www.ichbinleise.de/images/7912-2-c.jpg (just to look cool)
But now when I'm running a benchmark or some 3D-Games the Screen freezes and I have to reboot. The cooler are getting so hot you can just keep your hands there for a few seconds. Does there always have to be a fan in addition to a heatsink, or does anybody use his Voodoo 5 passivly cooled, without burning down the house or at leas the card?

I think heatsink alone is not enough (especially a small heatsink like this) to cool the VSA100 chip..

Have you read this thread http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2109 ?

I'm no expert, but it from what I've been reading on these forums you will still need a case fan anyway if you want passive cooling.

I personally use the stock standard heatsinks/fans inside a standard AT case with the power supply fan being the only case cooling and I've not had a problem :)
