Title: Remains the question about DVDs in Voodoo2
Post by: ClaudioSilva on 01 August 2005, 02:51:17
Is there anyone who can help me? Four days ago I asked here in this forum if there is something that would make my voodoo2 help playing DVDs in my computer.
I have an Asus motherboard TX97-XV with a ATI Rage II video onboard that isn´t enought to play DVD´s in a satisfactory way.
I would like to know if there is any way to make my voodoo2 help me watch DVDs.
Please, I ask one of the moderators or experienced users to help me with this issue.

Again, thanks a lot.

PS.: My computer is a K62 333mhz, 256mb RAM, Win98SE.

AFAIK V2 only have MPEG-I decompression capability but no MPEG-2...
anyway, you can always try VoodooMovie

Why not a dedicated card like the Hollywood+ ?

Because I would have to BUY a Hollywood+ board and I'm quite broken (out of money) :^(
I think that Voodoo2 is powerfull enought to play DVDs if there is a tool to help it to do the task.

Thanks

Claudio

actually you can just hook up Voodoomovie and use Windows Media Player 7 to play DVD instead...

Why not Media Player Classic .
it looks like MS Media Player 6.4 but it's different and free
The last version is the 6.4.8.4

I've tried that MPC is not compatible with VoodooMovie
the best media player then would be media player 7 (type "mplayer2" in "Run" inside start menu and it will shows up)

Also maybe a better MPEG2 Codec will help too...
try stinky's MPEG2 Codec, it's good

QuoteI've tried that MPC is not compatible with VoodooMovie
interesting to know :)

About WMP 7, it would not work with VoodooMovie (?)
QuoteQ: I'm using Media Player 7.0 and I only get errors when I try to play a movie with Voodoomovie.
A: Currently Voodoomovie doesn't work with Media Player 7.0. You have to use version 6.4 to get Voodoomovie working.

MPlayer is perfect in this case: http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2439
hmmmm, your hardware is very basis, if you want to full optimize MPlayer you need to compile in your pc instead of use a binary version of it. I can't assure but MPlayer have a full compatible VIDIX driver for your graphic card, it is more fast than use directx or opengl output, so maybe you want to try it before of try to use your voodoo2 to redendering dvds.
