Title: Help v5k & ati9200
Post by: osckhar on 02 January 2004, 16:40:13
Hi,

I have some problems, I wish to put my v5k agp with my ati9200 pci together but I can't do it. I have some errors, I have problems of the installation.
Finally I have be able to put them together, but they don't work very well. When I try to work with v5k the 3dfx tools disappears,  then if I remove the ati 9200 pci, everything begins to work again!

Any solution?
Is possible that the ati9200 not was compatible with the v5k?
I never have had problems with my gf4 & v5k pci (together)!
Is there any solution?

Thanks
Oscar

Well I think the problem comes from your ATi Radeon 9200 card, my experience with ATi and Voodoo's along side has been very irritating recently[}:)]

The Ati Radeon based cards mostly have Dual head, which means you can install and use two monitors [like combining 1 CRT & a DVI]. So when you have installed the Radeon 9200, your windows program actually see's two Radeon 9200's, so if your also go'n to install a Voodoo5 5000 PCI of 5500 PCI next to it, windows will get kinda confused because virtually it will try and detect a third device output!

These problems which have occued are exactly the same problems I whitnessed with my Hercules Radeon 9700 Pro and 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB Rev 2900 A1 incombination, even with my 2x Skywell Technologies Voodoo2 12MB in Sli didn't like it either.[:(]and that hurts[B)]. This was tested in my AMD AthlonXP 2600+ Barton with ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev.2.0 mobo under Win XP Pro N.L.

So I tried it in my other system; Dual AMD AthlonMP 2200+ with ASUS A7M266-D and tried to combine it with my Club-3D Radeon 9700 Pro, but the problems where still there and this SMP PC has Win 2K Pro U.S.A. installed on it, so that difference wasn't helpfull also[:(!]

So if that didn't help, where would I go next[?] Well Not far anyways. I was thinking about building a third PC, which was specially made for by only using 3dfx Voodoo based AGP cards. So I built this combination:

AMD AthlonXP 2700+ Thoroughbred-B
ASUS A7V333-R [VIA KT333 + RAID
1x 512MB PC-2700 CL 2,5
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev 2500 A

Why, the ASUS A7V333-R, this is one of the fewer mainboards that support all Voodoo based cards like the AGP ones as PCI ones and Windows98SE.

So that is why I have a third sugestion, that's a third PC for my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP card. If Win 2K Pro does not accept like WinXP Pro doesn't, i didn't even bother by tring it with Wi98SE, as for I chose for an AGP version of the 5500 and that KT333 Board.

So I will tell you some thing if I fixxed this problem ;)

I hope you understand what I mean.

Regards,

Obi-Wan Kenobi

its really very simple NO radeon will work as a secondary card, you need to boot with the radeon for it work correctly. make sure you change the bios to boot from PCI first. And! you need to disable one of the radeons display outputs. I am running a 6k on pci converter and a radeon 9800 together. Works like a charm.
